John Andrew Raney, Jr.
John Andrew Raney, Jr., 90, of Beaumont, died Saturday, April 29, 2023, at Buckner Calder Woods, Beaumont. He was born February 4, 1933, in Beaumont, to Viola Mae Creamer Raney and John Andrew Raney, Sr.
John was the owner of Raney Plumbing and Heating and was a vice president for twenty-five years of Hancock Whitney Bank (formerly Mid-South Bank and Lamar Bank). He was a member of the Beaumont Jaycees and was a former president of the Beaumont Founder’s Lion Club. John was a member at Trinity United Methodist Church and held several leadership positions within the church. He was on the board of directors at the Business and Professional Men’s Club, Sigma Nu Fraternity; and scout leader, Explorer Post No. 251 for Boy Scouts of America. He graduated from Lamar University and was a life member of Lamar University Alumni Association; and the president of Sabine Neches Plumbing and Heating Contractors Association (1966-1968).
John is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Georgann Raney of Beaumont; daughter, Karen Raney Smith and her husband, Steve, of Houston; son, John A. Raney, III and his wife, Joleen, of Kingwood; granddaughter, Jessica Raney Willey and her husband, Drew, of Houston; grandson, Jordan Raney and his wife, Molly; grandson, Parker Smith; granddaughter, Gianna Smith Nunn and her husband, Chris, all of Houston; and great-grandchildren, Jonah Willey, Grace Willey, Miles Raney, and Wes Raney.
He is preceded in death by his father, John Andrew “Buck” Raney, Sr.; mother, Viola Creamer Raney; and infant daughter, Wanda Lee Raney.
A gathering of Mr. Raney’s family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m., with his funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont.

I am so sorry I didn’t find out about John’s passing until today(Saturday afternoon). Long time friend of my parents fron St. Paul UMC and Lamar Bank from our South Park days and again at Trinity UMC. Prayers for the Raney family.

Georgann, I am so very sorry about the loss of your dear husband. While we worked together at Lumberton Primary, I had the pleasure of meeting your husband. He was such a fine man, so warm and friendly and kind. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. May the Lord give you His great strength and grace.
My deepest sympathies to the wonderful Raney Family. I will alway treasure my memories of working for John at Lamar State Bank and our continued correspondence through Christmas letters. I’m sorry that Randy and I are unable to be with you on Saturday but you are in our thoughts and prayers.

John was a founding member of my fraternity at Lamar but what I remember most about him was that he was my dad’s banker. My dad had the greatest respect for John and always said he could walk in, discuss a loan and do the deal with John on a handshake (the good old days). John also did my very first car loan when I was in college. Great man.

My family and our business was blessed by having your dad as our banker. He was a great advocate for us in the beginning when we started and without his faith in us it would have been much more difficult to get the business up and running. I will always remember his smiling face and ready handshake when I entered the bank. A great life lived as a Christ like example!
I met John about 1984 when he was our landlord on Palm Street in the South Park area of Beaumont. I had the pleasure of leasing John’s childhood home. My husband and I lived there two years and thought the Raneys were the best landlords! They enjoyed renting to college students and often called me for references of married students I referred during the years.
When I began working at Trinity United Methodist Church, I again had the wonderful opportunity of engaging with John on several projects. He always brought dedication, brilliance, thoughtfulness, and integrity to every project or committee.
Beaumont has been a much better place because of John Raney. I am a much better person because John crossed my path.
I knew John for many years. He was a fine man. Prayers for the family.
