John Darryl O’Quinn

July 12, 1962 - December 21, 2022

John Darryl O’Quinn, 60, of Kountze, died Wednesday, December 21, 2022.  He was born on July 12, 1962, in Beaumont, to Luella Delaney O’Quinn and W.T. O’Quinn.

John was a man who left an impression on everyone who met him.  With his infectious smile and truly famous “bear hugs”, no one who met him remained a stranger for long.  John loved meeting new people, but the most precious thing to him in this world was his family.

His wife, Susan and he were the quintessential definition of soulmates.  They were a power couple when it came to love and happiness.  The only thing that rivaled their love for each other was their love for their daughters, Shelby and Jocelyn, and granddaughters, Parker and Lennon.

John also found a true son in his daughter, Shelby’s husband, Thomas.  For John, as long as he had his family, everything else in life was just a bonus.  Whether it was fishing, buying a scratch-off or two every day, or just getting to spend time with his pup, Spanky, John had plenty of hobbies to help him pass the time.

He was the kind of man who needed to be doing something at all times.  That included doing something for others just as easily as he would do things for himself.  He was as selfless and giving as he was adored by his family and friends.

John leaves behind big shoes to fill when it comes to laughing joyously, hugging with intent, and loving fiercely.  There will never be another John O’Quinn, and everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him is made better because of him.

Survivors include his daughters, Shelby Patrizi and her husband, Thomas, and Jocelyn O’Quinn, all of Lumberton; granddaughters, Parker Patrizi and Lennon Patrizi; and siblings, Charlotte Arceneaux and her husband, Howard, of Nome; Cheryl Farrow of Lumberton; Kay Hennigan and her husband, Joe, of Lufkin; Joanie Welch of Hamshire; Buddy O’Quinn and his wife, Becky, of Lumberton; and Glenda Hodges and her husband, Glenn, of Lumberton.  He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Susan O’Quinn; and sister, Donna Broussard.

A gathering of John’s family and friends will begin at 11:00 a.m., with his funeral service at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Broussard’s, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee.  His interment will follow at Mount Zion Cemetery, Chester.
