John “Red” Matthews
John “Red” Matthews, 68, of Vidor, died Wednesday, June 21, 2023. He was born on October 19, 1954, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Pansy Horn and Drew Matthews. He was raised and loved by Blanche Chauvin
John was a veteran of the United States Army. He loved fishing, hunting, and always wanted to be around his family. John enjoyed collecting old things and volunteered to drive disabled veterans to and from Houston. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Vidor. John will be remembered as a great husband and devoted dad.
Survivors include his wife of fifty years, Roni Matthews, of Vidor; children, Wendy R. Hebert; Travis W. Matthews and his wife, Jody; and Janice M. Maxey and her husband, Derek, all of Vidor; grandchildren, Jimmy Hebert, Fancy Ousley and her husband, Tyler; Genavieve Matthews; Clara Matthews; Kaylee Matthews; Travis Matthews; Drew Matthews; Seth Maxey; Owen Maxey; Kacelyn Maxey; Kollins Maxey; great-grandchildren, Jaxyn Ousley, Johnathan Hebert, and Jakob Hebert; step-mother, Helen Matthews; brothers, Donald D. Matthews and Glenn Matthews; and sisters, Debra “Sissy” Claiborne; Roxanne Farnell and her husband, Ronnie; and Rebecca Matthews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Drew Matthews; mother, Pansy Matthews; brother, Roger Matthews; sister, Rhonda “Sissy” Matthews Roll; brother, Charles Matthews; mother, Blanche Chauvin; and grandchild, Isabella.
A gathering of Mr. Matthew’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with his Rosary recited at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at Our Lady of Lourdes, 1600 N. Main Street, Vidor, with his interment to follow at Restlawn Memorial Park, Vidor.
