John "Shorty" Payne, Sr.

February 9, 1926 - July 13, 2020

J.E. “Shorty” Payne, Sr., 94, of Beaumont, died Monday, July 13, 2020. He was born on February 9, 1926, in Saratoga, to James Eugene Collins Payne and Alfred Elist Payne.

Survivors include his children, Phyllis Ruffino and her husband, Tommy, of Holland; Lavisa Upton and her husband, Bob, of Allen; Denise Barron and her husband, Stan, of Richmond; John Payne, Jr., and his wife, Ginger, of China; and Teresa McCoy and her husband, Paul, of Saratoga; grandchildren, Charlie Ruffino and his wife, Lisa, of Sour Lake; Karey Poe of Academy; Clayton Upton of Allen; Kyndell Upton of Allen; Whitney George and her husband, Bart, of Kansas City, Missouri; Mallory Higgins and her husband, Paul, of Iowa, Louisiana; Justin Payne and his wife, Ramona, of Lumberton; Joshua Payne and his wife, Emily, of Sour Lake; Tara Beaty of Holland; and Abby McCoy of Saratoga; nine great-grandchildren; and siblings, Marion Porter of Mont Belvieu and Erma Watson and her husband, Byron, of Kirbyville.

Shorty is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Laffelle Payne; brothers, Bubba Payne, Hunkie Payne, Rip Payne, and Pete Payne; and sister, Waldine Farmer.

A graveside service for Mr. Payne’s family and friends will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 17, 2020, at Felps Cemetery, Saratoga, under the direction of Broussard’s, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee.
