John “Steve” Stephen Luttenberger

June 24, 1940 - July 24, 2024

John Stephen Luttenberger, known to many as “Steve” has passed on to the heavens on July 24, 2024. John (Steve) was born on June 24, 1940, in Portland Oregon, to Frank and Matilda Luttenberger.

He had an older sister named Loretta. John attended St. Ignatius School in Portland, Oregon. John served in The U.S. Army Reserves from April 27, 1965, up until April 18, 1968. He began his career in the trucking industry which lasted about 40 years.

He married Joyce Sullenberger, they were married 48 years and had two daughters, Kaye and Cathy Luttenberger.

John had a fondness for photography and was always taking pictures of family, landscapes, animals and anything worthwhile that he liked. During his military service, he was a photographer with Stars & Stripes, capturing many events that took place at home and abroad. He was a man who enjoyed life and had a great sense of humor. He was very social and outgoing. He loved to talk and tell corny jokes and laugh and be happy. He was a very caring and loving husband and father.

He was very much into sports. He was an avid bowler, winning many trophies as part of his team and as an individual. John enjoyed playing golf and took many trips to different resorts to play. He had also acquired many trophies during his time playing golf.

John (Steve) is survived by his two daughters, Kaye Luttenberger, of Austin, TX, and Cathy Luttenberger and her husband, Brent, of Groves, TX; grandchildren, Bryce Luttenberger, of Orange, TX, Mathew Walters, of Austin, TX, and Braylee Weatherford; and great grandchildren, Ravin Luttenberger, of Orange, TX, and Anakin Walters, of Austin, TX.

Mr. Luttenberger’s graveside service will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, August 12, 2024, at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, 618 Block Street, Port Neches, under the direction of Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. Deacon Chris Sherman will be presiding. Southeast Texas Veterans Service Group will provide military burial proceeding.
