Johnny “Pops” Blake
Johnny “Pops” Blake, 88, of Kountze, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, October 27, 2022. He was born on October 11, 1934, in Beaumont, to Carrie Moore Blake and Vaughan Blake.
Johnny went to French High School in Beaumont. After graduating, he served his country in the United States Army for three years where he served in the Tenth Special Forces group and was part of the first Green Beret. During this time, he married his beautiful bride of sixty-nine years, Mable Blake. After his service, he worked for the gas company, General Electric, and retired from Dupont at the age of 50. Johnny spent about ten years of his retirement at April Sound, in Conroe. While in April Sound, he spent his retirement bar-b-queing for his family, golfing, fishing, and working on various building projects. He moved back to Kountze in 1996 and finished out his days watching his grandkids and great-grandchildren grow.
Johnny was best known for his exceptional work ethic and his love for family. He left a legacy of love for family, a compassion to help others, and a foundation of integrity and character.
Survivors include his wife, Mable Blake; son, Mike Blake and his wife, Paula; daughter, Vicki Laird and her husband, Bill; grandchildren, Kerri Parker, Amanda Ortiz, Chris Laird, Cory Laird, and Tyler Blake; great-grandchildren, Madeline Parker, Jessie Brown, Mikaela Parker, Remington Laird, Lily Laird, Cara Laird, Easton Laird, Blake Parker, Waylynn Blake, and Rexxi Blake; sisters, Zana Tarpey of Georgetown and Barbara Puckett of Houston; and he will be especially missed by his faithful canine companion, Coco. He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Gloria Cobb and Anita Beal; and brothers, Hampton Blake, Brad Blake, and Lacy Blake.
A gathering of Johnny’s family and friends will begin at 12:00 p.m., with his memorial service at 1:00 p.m., Friday, November 4, 2022, at Broussard’s, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee. His committal was held at Broussard’s Crematorium.

Johnny and I grew up in Pinecrest.
We had 10 and sometime 14 who skated at Edward’s Grade school,
played ball, rode bikes, pickniced,swam in the sand pits and explored a haunted house near River Oaks. Johnny was my first date. Mr. Kelly picked up 3 couples
for a BD Party for Kenneth Rayburn.
I remember him as part of a unique and happy childhood.
My deepest sympathy to all who loved and honor Johnny.
