Joseph Carlton Touchet
Joseph Carlton Touchet, 93, of Beaumont, died Wednesday, May 4, 2022. He was born on July 31, 1928, in Abbeville, Louisiana, to Mary May Champagne and Joseph Dassas “J.D.” Touchet. Carlton retired as a Field Representative for the U.S. Social Security Administration, after more than 30 years, circa 1960-1990.
In his day, Carlton was a natural athlete who was good at everything he tried. He enjoyed growing roses, crossword puzzles, DIY projects, voting, contributing, baking the world’s best cookies, and helping anyone whenever he could. Carlton was a wonderful human with a sharp sense of humor.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Bishop Smith Touchet; children, Ed Touchet and his wife, Caroline; Clara Touchet; John Touchet; Edie Touchet Cherubino; step-children Mindy Greenspan and her husband, Kim; Sue Ellen Lassiter; and Lee Smith; grandchildren, Stephanie-Anne Touchet; Carly Cherubino; Paul Cherubino II; and step-granddaughter Melissa Smith; great-granddaughter, Isabelle M. Touchet-Deleon; brothers, Gene Ray Touchet and Robert W. Touchet and his wife, Vicki; and numerous nieces and nephews. Many friends and relations from Vermillion Parish, Louisiana, will also remember him.
Carlton is preceded in death by his parents; and young brother, J. Earl Touchet.
Memorial contributions may be made to an organization of one’s choice.
Cremation arrangements were handled through Broussard’s Crematorium, under the direction of Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. At a later time, the family will place Mr. Touchet’s ashes in the family crypt, at Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery in Erath, Louisiana.
Dad enjoyed improving upon things, after first following instructions. He often told me, “Use your powers of observation.”
When his older son was in Iraq, he baked and mailed cookies to them. So, Dad and I traded a lot of tips on the fine-tuning of oatmeal cookie ingredients and assembly. I always think of Dad when I get to the butter. (He substituted half of the butter with canola oil – less 1 Tbsp.)
I miss you, Dad. We attended another veteran’s funeral yesterday (from the Viet Nam era). His daughter’s eulogy filled my heart.
Sending you much love, Ann. My mom and dad loved you both so very much. I think back on all the fun dinners we had together. You and Carleton we alway so caring and giving. True treasures. And my sympathies to all of Carleton’s family. He was a special man.
