Joyce Ann Norsworthy

Joyce Ann Norsworthy, 76, of Beaumont died Sunday January 9, 2022, at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Beaumont. She was born in Houston, Texas on October 31, 1945, to May Taylor Harper and Bob Harper.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 53 years, Joel Brian Norsworthy, her brother Ira William Garrett, her sister Bea Kettl, and nephews James Kettl and Sean Kettl.

Survivors include her brother, Rhitt Garrett and his wife, Janet, of Hockessin, Delaware; nieces, Stena Kettl of Beaumont; Celeste Kendrick of Beaumont; Lara Garrett and her husband, Michael, Barrett of Eatontown, New Jersey; Julie Galvin and her husband, Will, of Ashburn, Virginia; Tina Kettl of Forney, Texas; and nephew, Lonnie Kettl and his wife, Melinda, of Zachary, Louisiana. She is also survived by numerous cousins and great nieces, Cydney Meyer, Genesis Van Conant, Dionne Kettl, Heather Fulton and Lauren Kendrick; and great nephews Casey Meyer, Scott Kendrick, Jake Galvin and Finn Barrett; and one great-great niece, Everly Van Conant.

To her family she was known as Ann and as Joyce to the rest of the world. Ann was a graduate of South Park High School and obtained a degree from Chenier’s Business School. She worked as a bookkeeper and as a secretary and was active for many years in her Sorority.  She was a fantastic cook and volunteered for many years making chili for St. Mark’s Annual Chili Dinner. She was a mentor, sister, and mother figure to so many and was always available to lend a helping hand, talk through a problem or be a shoulder to cry on. You could always depend on Ann no matter what the occasion.

Ann had so many health challenges over the years, but she always overcame them. She was such an inspiration to so many.

Ann loved animals.  She was a surrogate mom to everyone’s pets and had her own menagerie over the years. In recent months she took on the care of cats and kittens that had been abandoned.  Smokey, Maggie, Macy, Mommy, Grace, Sammie and Mikey will all miss her, especially the treats and the snuggles.  They were a great source of comfort and entertainment during these last difficult months.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Santos Soberon, Patrise Heiman, and all the nurses and therapists at Intrepid Home Health.  A special heartfelt thank you goes out to Karen Thomas for all of her care and help this past year.

A memorial service and a Celebration of Life for both Joyce Ann and her husband Joel Brian will be held at a later date.
