Joyce “Jeannine” Moore Liepke Walther

Joyce “Jeannine” Moore Liepke Walther, 88, of Nederland, died on Tuesday, July 5, 2022. She was born June 2, 1934, in Houston, to Vannie Gay Pullen Moore and Lonzoe Voet Moore

Jeannine attended Beaumont High School and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Port Arthur. She was a proud alumna of the popular Melody Maids of Beaumont, where she played the bass violin.  She traveled various places with the Melody Maids, even making an appearance on Broadway in New York.  Jeannine also played the piano in her younger years.

Jeannine married Glenn A. Liepke and together they raised their four children in Groves.  She was an excellent seamstress, enjoyed crocheting and decorating and was always a step ahead in fashion and décor.

Jeannine later married Dr. Charles D. Walther, and they made their home in Nederland. Together, they enjoyed sailing, travelling across the US and abroad, and collecting antiques and unusual items from each trip.

After retirement, Jeannine continued her love of travel.  Some of her favorite trips were with her daughters to New York and Europe and her ladies group cruises and sightseeing trips. She had many interests and loved reading.  Jeannine was an only child and shared a very special bond with her cousins, who were more like her siblings.  She looked forward to their luncheons, laughter and time they spent together. Cousin time was cherished time!  Jeannine always kept a very active life.  She volunteered early in her retirement at The Medical Center of Southeast Texas.  She later volunteered many years at Baptist Hospital Gift Shop in Beaumont.  She loved meeting and greeting people.  Jeannine was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Nederland.

Jeannine grew up in a time where elegance and sophistication were a way of life for young women and she fit the part effortlessly. She always stood out above the crowd and was the definition of a “lady,” precisely put together, carrying herself with class and grace.

She is survived by her children, Shelia (Liepke) O’Banion and husband Wynne, of Bridge City, TX; Roxanne (Liepke) Fry and husband Charles “Eddy” III of San Marcos, TX; Wayne “Neil” Liepke and wife Tiffany, of Bridge City, TX, and Dana (Liepke) Holievina and husband Pete “Buck” of Nederland, TX. Grandchildren: Ashlie (Nobles) Edwards; Adam Nobles; Charles “Eddy” Fry IV; and Rachel (Fry) Graham, and eight great-grandchildren.

She is proceeded in death by her parents, previous husbands, and grandson, Jason Paul Liepke.

Mrs. Walther’s cremation arrangements will be handled through Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont, under the direction of Broussard’s, 505 North 12^th Street, Nederland. A small gathering of family and friends will be held at a later date.
