Juanita Shirley Behymer Macon

Juanita Shirley Behymer Macon, 88, of Nederland, died March 12, 2023. Alice and O.C. Behymer gave birth to Juanita on September 12, 1934, in Baytown, Texas. In 1952, she graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Baytown. After completing high school, Juanita graduated from Southwest Texas University receiving a teaching degree.

June 15, 1957, she married Floyd C. Macon, her husband of sixty-five years. They moved to Nederland in 1960. Juanita worked as a teacher in Port Arthur. After having her sons, Mitchell and Greg, she left teaching to stay at home with her sons. Juanita enjoyed crafting and for a brief time, she co-owned a craft shop with her best friend.

Juanita was a loyal member of First United Methodist Church in Nederland. She was active in many areas of the church, such as the meals on wheels program and the United Methodist Women Group. She enjoyed playing dominos and cards with a group called “Golden Friends.” Every Heritage Festival, she would be found working the church potato booth. Juanita and Floyd enjoyed square dancing with their Allemanders group. They also enjoyed traveling in their motorhome.

Juanita was a very special and caring person, who lived her life with a positive attitude. She saw the good in people and always had a kind word to say about everyone. She was a loving and supportive wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved when her grandchildren visited. She listened enthusiastically while they told her about their school activities. Some grandchildren would even perform for her. She was very proud of them. Juanita never missed any of their events and did everything she could to attend any sports game or recital. Juanita was loved by all and will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her sister, Delores McDonald of San Marcos; sons, Mitchell Macon and wife, Angie, of Nederland and Greg Macon and wife, Sharon, of Nederland; grandchildren, Hannah Zahradnik and husband, Adam, of Port Neches; Callie Trevino and husband, Trevor, of Nederland; Trevor Macon of Port Arthur; Slater Macon of Nederland; and Zachary Macon of Nederland; and great-grandchildren, Micah Zahradnik; Charlee Trevino; Ava Zahradnik; and Nolan Paul Zahradnik.

Juanita is preceded in death by her parents, Alice and O.C. Behymer and husband, Floyd C. Macon.

The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to all the caregivers that cared for her during her later years.

A gathering of Mrs. Macon’s family and friends will be 5:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, March 16, 2023, at Broussard’s. Her funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 17, 2023, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland, with her interment to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches.
