Judy Arnold

February 7, 1943 - February 26, 2023

Judy Arnold, 80, of High Island, died Sunday, February 26, 2023. She was born February 7, 1943, in Galveston, Texas, to Eva Morse and Lloyd Morse Sr. Judy was the youngest girl of thirteen children.

Judy lived a good, Christian life, raising her five children alongside her husband, Floyd Byerley, Sr. She was a member of the Pentecostal Church and raised her children in the same faith. She worked as a homemaker and worked outside of the home when her children were older. She had various jobs in her career; she worked for the school district in High Island for many years and worked as a TDC housekeeper for the prison hospital in Galveston and as a people greeter at Walmart in Texas City. She volunteered her time for the Salvation Army as bell ringer around the holidays for eight years. She used this time to witness to others about her faith and the love of God. She was nominated and recognized for her volunteerism for the Salvation Army. In the interview, they asked her many questions about why she was doing this work and she said that the reason she volunteered was because she felt good about raising money to help others. She was also asked in the interview, “If you could meet any two people, living or dead, who would they be and why?” Her response was, “I would like to meet with Jesus. I would also like to meet Moses; when I get to heaven one day I will.”

Right now, she is getting to talk with Jesus. I can imagine her walking around pain-free on those streets of gold, playing that accordion, singing, and joining that heavenly choir. I know she is surrounded by all of those that have gone before her and spending time with her mother, father, sisters and brothers, and her husband, Floyd.

We would like for her to be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. If anyone would like to share a memory with us about Judy, please take this time to remember her.

She is survived by her daughter, Frances Sweat and Richard Walling; son, Floyd Byerley, Jr. and wife, Kathy; son, Gary Byerley and girlfriend, Barbara Schley; daughter, Susan Officer and husband, Leland; and daughter, Sabrina Bobino; eight grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and siblings, Louise Bergeron of Galveston, Texas; Lucy Glaze of Mississippi; brothers, Wesley Morse of Coamo, Puerto Rico and Wayne Morse of Fairfield, Illinois.

A graveside service for Ms. Arnold will begin at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at High Island Cemetery.

The family would like to thank everyone for helping us honor the life of Judy and celebrate her going home to be with her savior.

Please join us after the service at the First Baptist Church, 1368 Weeks Avenue, High Island for fellowship and to share your memories about Judy.
