Judy Marie Benoit Galley Swiger
Judy Marie Benoit Galley Swiger, lovingly known as “Mom,” “Aunt Judy,” “Mawmaw Galley,” and “Sis,” was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. A true servant of Jesus, she lived her life as an example of commitment, devotion, and faith, always putting the needs of others before her own.
Born in Church Point, Louisiana, Judy developed a love for cooking at the young age of nine—a passion that would become one of her greatest gifts to those around her. She found joy in feeding others, whether it was family gathered around the table or an entire community in need. Over her 50 years in Hamshire, she poured her heart into countless meals, serving at Volunteer Fire Department fundraisers, weddings, funerals, and alongside the ladies of First Baptist Church Hamshire. Her gumbo and rice dressing were truly legendary, always requested and always made with love.
Judy’s warmth, generosity, and unwavering faith touched the lives of so many. She leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and the belief that the best way to show you care is to nourish others—not just with food, but with kindness and compassion.
She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Survivors include her children, Jana Hendrix, Gail Shawver and husband, Karl, Pamela Cox and husband, Eddie, and Glen Galley; nine grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; brother, Willie James Benoit and wife, Emily Jo; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Julius Galley and Arthur Swiger; brother, Glen Roy Benoit; daughter, Sandra Marie Galley; and son, Kirk Anthony Galley.
A gathering of Mrs. Swiger’s family and friends will begin at 9:00 a.m., with her funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 28, 2025, at Broussard’s, 134 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie. Her interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Winnie.

Judy was a sweetheart. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
I am so sorry for the loss of your Momma . She was such a sweet lady.
A mother’s love is boundless, through her hugs, her advice, her smiles and the food she lovingly made to nurture her family. There are simply no words to ease the pain of losing such an amazing person. I am grateful to have had Aunt Judy in my life. Sending you all love during this difficult time.
Judy Swiger was a real example of what it means to have a servant’s heart. Many were the hours that she stood on her feet helping prepare food for 800 or more people expected to attend a fundraiser the next day…..then going home late to make bread pudding for the guys cooking BBQ in the morning so they would have something for breakfast. Not only did SHE serve the community through the Hamshire VFD, she recruited her children to help as well…always teaching by example.
Thank you, Galley Children, for sharing your mother with us. She was a “Pure Cajun” lady with a big heart filled with pride for each of you. We were truly blessed to have her serving with us for so long.

We will miss Aunt Judy so much. She was an amazing person. She is not really my Aunt but we loved her like family. I am sure she is cooking something really good up in Heaven today. Praying for all the family.
When I moved to Hamshire 50 years ago Judy was the first person I met. It seemed like we became friends instantly and remained today. Her children became mine and mine became hers. We always had something going on at her house are at mine. She and I never had an argument and neither did our children. We were very close like sisters. I love her and I will never forget her. I will miss her. Her children treats everyone the same way she did. My prayers are for each and everyone of you. I love you all. Miss Mary Ruth
My sympathies and love go out to Ms Judy’s family. I’m not sure if any of you remember me
I am the daughter of Joe & Mary Valdez.
I’m not sure, but Mom and Ms Judy used to share recipes many years back. She was close
to all my family on County Line Rd. and close to my Aunt Jane.
