Julie Oszczakiewicz Cokinos

September 4, 1953 - January 17, 2021

Julie Anna Oszczakiewicz Cokinos, of Beaumont, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, January 17, 2021.

Julie was born to Thomas William Oszczakiewicz and Annabel VanSchoubroek Oszczakiewicz on September 4, 1953. The first of five children, she was immersed in family and cherished the opportunity to be close to her parents throughout their lives. Julie attended St. Pius X Catholic grade school and later graduated from French High School, class of 1972.

Julie loved traveling and the arts, often sharing vivid stories from her experiences with her family. She applied her interpersonal gifts and charisma towards a career in sales–she was a national salesperson for A.B. Dick based in Chicago and subsequently a director for the Beaumont Chapter of The American Red Cross. She loved the Junior Forum volunteering and the FOLLIES and had a wide variety of friends from all walks of life. Julie eventually became a realtor in Beaumont for American Real Estate and enjoyed the camaraderie of working with her agency family. Few things made Julie happier than quality time spent together with her loved ones, whether on cruises or on extended beach trips, which luckily were plentiful in her life.

Julie was a wonderful mother, daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother, cousin, niece and friend. As a loving mother to her two children, she radiated pride for her kids as they studied at Kelly High School and Lamar University and later became incredible parents themselves. She adored her daughter-in-law Phoebe and her son-in-law Wayne, and both of her granddaughters immeasurably.

Julie knew what it meant to have a large family, and as the oldest of five children, the ability to keep close bonds with her siblings, parents and extended relations seemed to come naturally to her. This developed into a deep devotion for her ever-growing, multi-generational family unit. She took joy in small acts of praise, often pulling a family member close to her for a brief moment simply to whisper a compliment. Words fail to fully convey the impact of her constant, effortless presence as she participated fully in all of life’s most joyful and incredibly sorrowful moments with us all. She was always genuinely invested in everyone’s life progress and ceaselessly cheered us all on with encouragement. We will miss her more than we can yet know.

Julie was a devout Catholic and had a special devotion to the Blessed Mother Mary.  It is our sincere belief she was escorted to Heaven by many of the Angels and Saints upon whose constant intercession she relied upon for help.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Annabel and Thomas Oszczakiewicz, her niece, Grace Annabel Lee, and her brother, Karl William Oszczakiewicz.

Julie was surrounded in love by her daughter, Christina Marie Townsend and husband Wayne; her son, Thomas Peter Cokinos and wife Phoebe; and granddaughters, Elizabeth Ann Townsend and Lucca Alexandria Cokinos. Other family members include her aunt, Tommie Johnson of Pearland, Texas; sister, Suzanne Grable and husband Rick of Beaumont; brother, Dr. Michael Oszczakiewicz and wife Rhonda of Beaumont, Texas; sister, Mary Anne Lee and her husband Bryan of Beaumont, Texas; nieces and nephews, Kari Cardenas and husband, Israel; Jennifer Frazier and husband, Ryan; Jason Oszczakiewicz; Sarah Neiley and husband, Richard; Stacie Bauer and wife, Colleen; Nathalie Breland and husband, Jason; Nicholas Oszczakiewicz and wife, Alyce; Michelle Oszczakiewicz; Emily Lee; and Gabriella Oszczakiewicz; great-nieces and great-nephews: Isabella Mandujano, Annabel Cardenas, Ricardo Cardenas, Elliana Oszczakiewicz, Jasper Frazier, Jacinth Frazier, Evelyn Breland, Jett Oszczakiewicz, Anna Neiley, Clara Neiley, and Olivia Breland. Julie also will be missed by a multitude of cousins and friends whom she loved and admired.

Memorial contributions may be made in Ms. Cokinos’s memory to the “Thomas Oszczakiewicz Memorial Scholarship in Engineering”, P.O. Box 11500 Beaumont, Texas 77710, or www.lamar.edu/give.

A gathering of Ms. Cokinos’s family and friends, will begin at 5:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, January 21, 2021, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 22, 2021, at St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica, 700 Jefferson Street, Beaumont, with her interment following at Magnolia Cemetery, Beaumont.

I shared many years of working with Julie. We laughed, and shared a lot of stories. She always was talking about her family, children and grandchildren. She would always say, "Thomas is playing here or there, come on out and hear him."! She was a great story teller, Prayers for the family. I will never forget my friend Ju Ju.
