Katherine Norwood Smith

Katherine Norwood Smith, 82, of Buna, died Sunday, October 19, 2025. She was born on March 4, 1943, in Vidor, to Essie Wallace and Roland Flay Norwood.

Katherine was a very smart, kind, and loving woman. She was a teacher and geologist, and also a librarian for the City of Port Arthur. She was a member and former lector of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Vidor. One of her favorite hobbies was belly dancing. She often performed at the Texas Renaissance Festival, and at various restaurants in the Houston and Beaumont areas during the mid 70’s through the mid 80’s.

Survivors include her son, Joel Lené and his wife, Tonya, of Vidor; grandchildren, Stephanie Campos and her husband, Kevin; Christopher Junot; and Matthew Lené, all of Vidor; great-grandchildren, Amelia and Olivia Campos; and stepchildren, Elizabeth Hillquist and her husband, Don, of Vidor; Stephanie Bush of Groves; Russell Smith and his wife, Kimla, of Orange; as well as their children.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward Smith; and brothers, Roland Wallace Norwood and Hugh “Gib” Norwood.

A gathering of Mrs. Smith’s family and friends will begin at 3:00 p.m., with her funeral service at 4:00 p.m., Monday, October 27, 2025, at Broussard’s, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee. Her interment will follow at Hardin Memorial Park, Silsbee.
