Kathryn “Kathi” Krueger Seewald
Kathryn “Kathi” Krueger Seewald, 83, of Beaumont, passed away, peacefully, surrounded with love, in her home, Monday morning, June 16, 2025. She was born September 16, 1941, in San Francisco, California, to Lucy L. and Jack B. Krueger.
In Kathi’s early life her family moved from San Francisco, where her father was posted with the Associated Press, to Dallas following his journalism career to the Dallas Morning News. Jack B. Krueger, worked his way up to managing and executive editors of The News, steered the Paper through the turbulence of the Kennedy assassination, and sat on the board of the A. H. Belo Corporation. The family built a wonderful life in Dallas. They were active members of Christ the King Catholic Church, creating a deep and devoted faith within Kathi. She attended Ursuline Academy for high school, making lifelong friends. After graduation, she enrolled in The University of Texas at Austin, where she joined the Tri Delta sorority, was a founding member of Bored Martyr’s, and earned her BA in interior design. Kathi was also introduced to the love of her life, ATO, Fredric Henry Seewald, Jr., from that moment on-it was “Fritz and Kathi”, or “Kathi and Fritz”, depending on who was speaking.
Following their marriage in Dallas on September 7, 1963, the young couple moved to Beaumont where Fritz was born and raised. They began building their life and making friends that are still paramount to the family today. Kathi joined St. Anne’s Catholic Church. She strongly believed in volunteering her time to many worthwhile causes, including: The Junior League, the Art Museum of Southeast Texas, Some Other Place, and Meals on Wheels, to name a few.
Decorating, designing, painting, planting, floral arranging – Kathi shared her creative gifts freely, enriching her life deeply. She found a love of all things plants and flowers, becoming a member of the Magnolia Garden Club. Finding her second calling, she learned and worked diligently at her craft. Kathi’s career took her around the country, participating and placing in many flower shows, sitting on several committees, serving as president for two years, and becoming a national judge for the Garden Club of America.
Kathi’s most important endeavor was that of being an amazing and invested mother and wife. She supported her family in all pursuits, making costumes, attending sporting events and school functions, and even learning to fish, crab, and shoot a variety of guns. The family loved going to the beach, starting with the Seewald/Edson beach house. Kathi and Fritz found and purchased their own dream cottage on Caplan Beach and began an entirely new book of sand, fish, shell, and shark teeth memories.
Kathi shared her positivity and zest for life with all she met, always expecting the best of friends and family. Her greatest gift was her joyful and vibrant personality. Her ringing laughter and bright smile was infectious and could be found everywhere she was. Her love of Fritz filled hers and our hearts. For 64 years, Kathi lived and loved her best life with Fritz and the family they grew.
Kathi is preceded in death by her parents and daughter-in-law, Kelley Hudson Seewald.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Fritz Seewald, Jr.; son, Fritz (Trip) Seewald, III, of Houston, his children, Hunter Alan, and Hudson Fredric Seewald; daughter, Gretchen Seewald Atwell and husband, Christopher D. Atwell, of Austin, their children Anthony Hill, and Kathryn Grace Atwell; son, Jackson Hill Seewald and wife, Robin Reese Seewald, of Austin, and their children, Jackson Hill Seewald, Jr. and Harrison Reese Seewald.

Our heartfelt condolences to you and your family. Our family has such fond memories of your mom’s beautiful smile at first communions, graduations, and other fun milestones with Hill and Grace in Austin. My favorite memory of your mom was when we all went to The Rolling Stones Concert at Zilker Park. She was so fun and always so elegant. May she rest in peace. Heaven has another angel.

Fritz, Trip, Gretchen and Jack,
Kathi was one of those ladies who was beautiful both inside and out. Her big smile was infectious and every room became a little brighter when she entered. Kathi was a kind and gentle soul. She fought a courageous battle. Let your good memories get you through the bad times. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
