Kathy Gibson

September 16, 1942 - February 3, 2022

Mabel Kathryn “Kathy” Hood was born on September 16, 1942. She grew up in Port Arthur, Texas with her parents, Meemaw and Pawpaw, whose actual names were revealed to us much later as Elmer and Geraldine Hood. Her earlier years were spent being left-handed, playing the piano and surviving a wasp sting at her Grandparents house. We never saw her ride a bike, but there are photos to prove it happened.

She married Richard Gibson on January 28 in 1966, and it wasn’t long before they were a family of five. They had three lovely children, Rick, Melissa, and Kim. Her family attended First Baptist Church of Nederland, Texas and were present whenever the doors were open. She never drank, hated the smell of cigarettes, and cried when her kids learned to spell ‘b-u-double-t.’

She was kind, a servant, and thankful when you helped her.  Kathy loved to wear culottes and made sweet tea that could grow hair on your chest.

Rick married KayLynn, Melissa married Lloyd, and Kim married Jay. She lived to meet fourteen grandkids, five of their spouses, and two great-granddaughters.  Jordan, Aubrey, Daniel, Jessica, Peleg, Emily, Mateu, Jonas, Jayme, Tanner, Noah, Michaela, Wesley, Travis, Isaac, MaryKathryn, Peter, Vallie, Joseph, Meilani, and Micah will miss her deeply.

Kathy, at the age of 79, passed away on February 3, 2022, at home with her grandson serenading her on the piano. What a blessed way to go.

A memorial service in her honor will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 13, 2022, at First Baptist Church, 1911 Nederland Avenue, Nederland, Texas. Please join us.
