Keith Capps

Keith Capps, 68, of Vidor, died Tuesday, November 12, 2024. He was born on October 28, 1956, in Oklahoma to Leta Mae Scott and Edward (Frank) Capps. Keith achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and graduated from Bryan High School in 1975. He joined the Army National Guard, where he passed basic training at Ft Polk, Louisiana. He also passed advanced airborne training and became jump qualified, eventually achieving the rank of sergeant serving with National Guard units in Bryan and San Marcos, Texas.

After being honorably discharged, Keith returned to BCS and attended Texas A&M University (TAMU), where he completed both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Archaeology, supporting several digs in Peru. He took a position with the TAMU registrar’s office before accepting a position as Assistant Registrar at Lamar University, relocating to Beaumont, Texas. He was later promoted to Registrar of Lamar University and continued in that role until his early retirement.

Survivors include his wife, K. Jane Stanley Capps; brother, Ken Capps and his wife, Connie, of Dallas; daughter, Rachael Klemm of San Antonio; sons, Stephen Capps and his wife, Shelby, of Houston; David Capps of Bryan; Michael Capps of Bryan; and Benjamin Capps and his wife, Megan, of Dallas; stepsons, David Lafley and his wife, Tanya, of Vidor and Michael Lafley of Orange; stepdaughters, Martha Daughtry of Silsbee and Janie McCabe of Vidor; twelve grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren with two on the way.

Keith is preceded in death by his parents and stepdaughter, Katherine Carrington.

A gathering of Mr. Capps’ family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., with a time of sharing at 6:00 p.m., Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. His cremation arrangements will be handled through Broussard’s Crematorium.
