Lannis Lee Tynes
Lannis Lee Tynes, 98, of Beaumont, died on Friday, January 9, 2026. Mr. Tynes was born in Liberty, Mississippi, on October 30, 1927. He grew up in Liberty as part of a large family and graduated from Mississippi State University with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. After being drafted into the Korean War, he completed boot camp at Fort Riley and was stationed at the Pentagon with the Corps of Engineers. When the war ended, he joined the reserves and returned to Liberty, where he met Rose Rushing. They married and, after a brief time in Liberty, moved to Beaumont, Texas, in 1957.
He began his career as an electrical engineer with Gulf States Utilities, where he worked until his retirement in February 1990. Mr. Tynes and Rose raised three children: Lee, Mary, and Marty (Martha).
In retirement, he continued his lifelong passion for hunting and became deeply involved in bird dog field trials, both as a participant and as a judge, especially in the Galveston, Texas, area. He was a dedicated member of his church choir until the early 2000s, when he stayed home to care for his beloved wife until her passing. In 1962, he joined the Harmony Exporters barbershop chorus and sang with them until 2018. Mr. Tynes is pictured on the date of his last public performance with the Exporters in December 2017.
Survivors include his children, Lee Tynes and his wife, Susan, of Lafayette, Louisiana, and Mary Tynes of Plano, Texas, and his two grandchildren.
Lannis is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rose Rushing Tynes; and daughter, Marty Tynes.

Mary, Lee, & family,
I am so sorry to read of the passing of your father.
Unfortunately i had no contact with him since I left Beaumont back in 1986, but I remember him – at First Baptist, Beaumont – being a kind, caring, good, good man who loved his family. I know he will be missed.
I’ll be remembering you all in my prayers. Blessings to you during these difficult days.

I worked with Mr. Tynes at Gulf States Utilities. He was delightful and always willing to teach me new things that helped me do a better job.
Lee & Mary,
I knew your father for 40 years as a patient, friend and fellow church member.
Lannis was the most perfect example of a true Southern gentleman, so steady in his disposition and a wonderful role model of a life well lived.
All my best to you both,
JOHN REIMERS
a truly kind and gentle soul; countless hours around him (and rose) – squirrel hunting at the farm in liberty – shooting guns, ridin that go-kart, fireworks . . . good stuff. been almost 60 years and his mississippi voice is still echoing in my memory, as easily as his grin.
what a lovely human he was. im grateful for the time i had around him and for the quiet, gentle, and lasting imprint he had on my life.
big love and blessings to the fam . . .
