Laura Allene McAnulty

January 14, 1927 - September 23, 2023

Laura Allene McAnulty, 96, of Beaumont, died Saturday, September 23, 2023, at Harbor Hospice, Beaumont. She was born on January 14, 1927, to Laura Langley Pattillo and Allen Lemuel Pattillo, in Beaumont. Allene enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Allene was raised in the South Park section of Beaumont and attended South Park High School where she was a proud “Greenie” drummer in the marching band.  She met Dan McAnulty after he moved to Beaumont after serving in WWII in the US Navy.  A country boy from Corrigan, Texas, they married in June 1948 and began a family in June 1949.

Allene spent many weekends with her husband Dan visiting his mother in Corrigan where she enjoyed a chocolate pie on every visit.  After moving to the North End of Beaumont in 1960,  she worked in the business office of the Fair Store. Tragedy struck in 1966 when Dan passed away suddenly from a heart attack. Allene was widowed at age 39 with four children aged 7 to 17.  Despite this, she persevered and raised four productive children.

She moved to Houston in 1977 where she worked as a receptionist for James A. Baker at Andrews and Kurth Law Firm in downtown. Mr. Baker asked her to come to Washington DC with him when he was serving in the White House. Although a great honor,  she declined  as she could not bear to leave her children and family. She retired from Andrews and Kurth in 1993 and moved back to Beaumont to help care for her mother, Laura Pattillo.

She lived in her Park Meadow townhouse until moving to Collier Park Assisted Living  facility in 2016 where she remained until her death. She was a strong and determined woman who dearly loved her family and was a blessing to all who knew her.  She will be dearly missed by her friends and family.

A special  thanks to son, Robert, wife Sandi; granddaughter, Shanna; and niece, Suzanne Ryan who were such a help to her as they live in Beaumont.

Also, thanks to the staff at Collier Park and to Harbor Hospice on Major Drive  who made her last hours comfortable even though she never regained consciousness from the stroke.

Survivors include her children, Dan A. McAnulty, Jr. and his wife, Maria; Robert McAnulty and his wife, Sandi Jo; Sandy K. Boulden and her husband, Al; and Gerald McAnulty and his wife, Sandy Lee; fourteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and niece, Suzanne Ryan.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dan McAnulty, Sr.; and sister, Norma Carlisle.

A graveside service for Mrs. McAnulty will be 3:00 p.m., Monday, September 25, 2023, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 4955 Pine Street, Beaumont, under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont.

Dan I’m sorry for your loss I met your mother when I was in Jr. High in Buna Texas. Every time I saw her in the grocery store, I made sure I was the grocery sacker that I carried her groceries to her car. She was one of the nicest people in Buna that I always felt she didn’t see my color but saw me. You’re not going to remember me, but I was a young Houston Police Officer when you were close to retirement when you found out I was from Buna and knew your mom you gave me the most important advice I ever received as a Police Officer and that was to get home every day from work. Thank you for that and I’m so happy I knew your mom. Tim Walker
