Laura J. Guye
Laura Jeanne Davidson Guye, 75, long time resident of China, Texas went home to be with her Savior on Saturday, September 21, 2024, surrounded by her three daughters.
September the 21st was a hard day for those that love her but was a day of great rejoicing for Laura. Not only is she in the presence of her Savior, beholding His great beauty, but she was also reunited with her loving husband on the exact day of their 56th wedding anniversary.
Laura, loving wife, Momma, and Maw Maw was born in Fort Smith, Arkansas on December 14, 1948. Laura was a member of First Baptist Bevil Oaks, a retired first grade teacher from Hull-Daisetta, and was an active member of China Elementary’s PTO and Hardin-Jefferson Band Boosters in her earlier years.
Laura was a lover of all things patriotic and was a proud supporter of her grandchildren. They were her pride and joy and she was continually invested in every aspect of their lives. Maw Maw could always be found at Hardin-Jefferson’s Friday night lights, Little League Baseball games (unless they were in the early morning), band concerts, Little Dribbler Games, TexAnn performances, shopping at Hobby Lobby, running to Walmart in the late-night hours, getting a Sonic Unsweet Tea, and blaring her favorite YouTube songs.
Laura leaves behind a legacy of love and faith in her Lord. Many of her last weeks were spent praising her Savior through song and prayer, despite the immense hardships she faced. She wanted her life to reflect the beauty of her God; and she did it well. One of her final life’s prayers was that each of her grandchildren would come to know the free gift of salvation, through Christ, that she was given so many years ago. She prayed that they would all one day be redeemed.
Laura was proceeded in death by her loving husband, Gary Guye. She is survived by her three daughters and son-in-laws, Amy and Tom Dickerson of Belton, Katie and Heath Dickey of China, and Jenny and Richard McLaughlin of China; grandchildren, Michael and Kevin Dickerson, Logan and Emma Dickey, and Jeremiah, Gary and Emmitt McLaughlin; other survivors include her sister, Elaine Davidson, Gary Brown, Christy Howard, and her loving church family of First Baptist Bevil Oaks.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church Bevil Oaks, 7725 Sweetgum Road, Beaumont, Texas 77713.
A gathering of Mrs. Guye’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, September 26, 2024, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Her funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 27, 2024, at First Baptist Church Bevil Oaks, 7725 Sweetgum Road, Beaumont, with her interment to follow at China Cemetery, China.

So sorry to hear of Laura’s passing, but she is with her the love of her life, Gary. I drove a school bus for H-J for 20 years. We visited on many trips. She was loved and will be missed by many. RIP LAURA🌹🚍💋🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I have such fond memories of Laura. We spent many years in Camp Fire and later in Band Boosters, and so many other things that involved our kids. She had such a vibrant spirit, and we had many good times that ranged from silly to serious, but always meaningful and mostly fun. She was in her element with anything involving kids, from toddlers to teens and and beyond. Laura was a gift to anyone fortunate to know her, and I feel blessed to be one of those. Just hearing her name will always make me smile. We will miss you.
Mrs. Laura was a wonderful mom to her three girls and to all the extra band kids. She was forever carpooling us all somewhere, braiding our hair before a contest, delivering a cake, or running off to a booster meeting; many times all in one afternoon. Her legacy of serving others and acts of kindness will always be remembered. My sincere thoughts and prayers of peace and comfort to Amy, Katie, & Jenny.
While I didn’t know your mom personally, I do know two of her daughters, and if she raised such wonderful women, she must have also been pretty incredible. I’m deeply sorry for your loss and will pray for you guys as God mends your broken hearts.
Love to you all,
Kay Abernathy
Amy, Katie, Jenny and family… Your mom was a beautiful lady inside and out. Your mom and dad were such kind and loving souls, always having something good to say. Whether it was a week or years between seeing them, it was like it was yesterday. I have loved your family since our days together at FBC Beaumont. I know you will miss her every single day, until we all spend eternity together! I’m praying for God’s peace and comfort to cover each of you. Hugs and love… Barb
