Lew Catron Sheffler

September 5, 1948 - August 16, 2024

Lew Catron Sheffler, 75, of Beaumont, died Friday, August 16, 2024. He was born on September 5,1948, to Kathryn Josephine Sheffler and Edgar Eugene Sheffler in Beckley, West Virginia. When he was a young boy he moved to Bradenton, Florida, where he called home. He loved the beach and the water and spent several years as a lifeguard in Bradenton. He also spent countless hours on the water with his cousins, Robby and Anne Sheffler. He later attended the University of Florida where he received his Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering. He then went on to serve in the United States Navy in Pensacola, Florida, where he flew fighter jets.

After his service in the Navy, he moved to Jackson, Mississippi, and began his career as an engineer. While living there he met the love of his life, Pat Sheffler. They then moved to Texas and welcomed two children, Ryan and Morgan. After a successful career with Dupont and Cain Chemical he retired from his career as an engineer and joined the Board of Orange Bank where he served for several years. They spent twelve years in Orange, Texas, and made great friends while living there. They then moved to Beaumont with their two children, and he spent the remainder of his life there. After moving to Beaumont, Lew had lots of free time that he filled with different passions. His hobbies included woodworking, welding, ham radio, fly fishing, sailing, and education. He loved to spend time watching his kids play soccer and helping them in school. He loved to learn and was constantly filling his time reading and studying anything that interested him. He loved to share that knowledge with anyone who would listen but specifically his kids and later his grandkids learned so much from him.

Lew had lots of titles but in July 2015 he got his favorite (and most accurate) name Grumpy when his first grandchild, Alexandra Bellrose Sheffler, was born. She was shortly followed by five boys which kept him very busy. Lew spent lots of time with his grandkids. He loved to go to Houston to watch them play sports and go to their school functions. He spent this past summer teaching one grandson how to tie knots and following along online as two of his grandsons played summer baseball. Lew was the first to lecture the kids on the safety of their activities and to tell them not to do something which kept his grandfather name “Grumpy” very accurate. His kids and his grandkids were truly his life’s greatest achievement and he made the most of his time with them.

Lew is survived by his wife, Pat Sheffler of Beaumont; his son, Ryan and wife Chanelle Sheffler of Houston, TX. His daughter, Morgan and her husband, Gerard Marichal, also of Houston, TX. He is also survived by his six grandkids; Alexandra Sheffler, 9, Beckham Sheffler, 7, Dexter Sheffler, 5, Fletcher Marichal, 8, Harrison Marichal, 6, and Campbell Marichal, 3. He is survived by his cousins, Anne Douglass and her husband Dan of Bradenton, Florida; Robby Sheffler of Palm City, Florida; and Joan Smith of Louisville, Kentucky, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A gathering of Mr. Sheffler’s family and friends will be from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Friday, August 23, 2024, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. His cremation arrangements were handled through Broussard’s.

    Pat, Ryan and Morgan,
We were truly shocked when we were looking for another dear friend and saw this about Lew. In watching the video, it brought back so many fun memories of all our time on those soccer fields. We are out there again with the grands and think of those times often. Please know we are so sorry for your loss of a good man and we send our love and prayers.

Cousin Lew and I were two weeks apart in age. He always got to the next year first to check it out and map the territory. I will be especially holding you all in prayer and love today for the gathering and soon for his birthday and wedding anniversary.
Lew was so much help with our family history. We are still trying to figure out George Sheffler’s parents so that quest will go on.
    With love,
    Joan
