Linda Ruth Goldstein, 76, of Beaumont passed away on Friday, July 25, 2025. She was born on October 19, 1948, in Jamaica Hospital in New York, the oldest child of Bonnie and Herbert Goldstein.

A year later, on Linda’s birthday, her brother Arthur was born and the two shared many happy childhood memories growing up in Wilmington, Delaware. She earned her graduate degree from Rockford College and spent time in Tennessee before returning to New Jersey.

Linda found her community in Beaumont, Texas when the family moved there in 1978. She lived in Houston and worked at USF&G insurance for many years, but Beaumont was always her home, and she eventually found her way back. After returning, she worked at Night’s Uniforms, she volunteered her time at KVLU and attended Temple Emanuel frequently until she was no longer able.

Linda is survived by her sister, Abby Kumpel and her husband, Jason Kumpel; brothers, Alan Goldstein and his wife, Kim Smith; and Arthur Goldstein and his wife, Melanie; niece, Kate Vann and her husband, Adam and their children, Isabel, Ben and Juliana.

I have tried several times to leave a message about Linda; so I hope this time that it goes through.

Linda lived life as follows: “al ha’Torah, al ha’Avodah, v’al G’milut Chasadim”. And the one word that defined her was “Mensch”.

Linda was one of the original members of Temple Emanuel Social Justice Committee. She enjoyed taking food to and visiting with our Congregants who were shut ins or who were at Collier Park during various Jewish holidays. She enjoyed volunteering at Some Other Place when our Congregants served on Christmas Day, and she always reminded me that her mother Bonnie had been one of the founders of SOP. Linda, like Bonnie, was a really good storyteller. She would always tell me what she had learned from her Mother. She put all of her change from shopping in the “Pushkie” so that it could be given away as charity. Her favorite charity was Israel, specifically Jewish National Fund. Linda always knew the date that Sisterhood would empty the blue boxes that were set aside for Jewish National Fund. She had me pick up a very generous and weighty amount of pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters to take to the meeting. I did not count it. That was the Mitzvah of the TES Treasurer. She had learned the importance of setting aside Tzedakah from Bonnie. Linda’s storytelling technique helped to make me forget that I was driving on the Rainbow Bridge to do volunteer in Bridge City after the Hurricane. She started the stories just before the bridge, and they lasted until we were successfully across it. One time she gave me the Travelers Prayer to keep in my car. She told me that it would be there to protect me.

Abby, Alan and Family, Linda’s legacy is one of kindness and selfless service. She was a Blessing in Life; she will be remembered for a Blessing. Amen!

I had encouraged her to write down all of her Bonnie Stories. I hope that she did!

Thank you, Cynthia. That’s so lovely and speaks so perfectly to the values that our parents graced us with.

I worked for Visiting Angels, and I took her to the store, doctors appointments, etc. She was very intelligent. She was faithful to her church and deeply loved her cat. Sympathies to her family.

    Abby Kumpel says:

Thank you so much, Mary. She depended on you. Thank you for looking after my sister.

I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Linda. I met her three years ago and visited with her at Summer place. She always had a smile, always remembered me and regaled me with stories of her growing up with her family in New Jersey, and her parents activities here at Temple Emanuel. She was so proud to have a picture of one of the stained glass windows from Temple Emanuel hanging beside her bed.
She did, indeed, have a remarkable memory. She was interested in my conversion journey, I learned much from her. I will miss visiting with her. Her memory always be for a blessing.

    Abby Kumpel says:

Thank you for this lovely comment, Maggie.

Met Linda less than 10 years ago but we became quick friends. I loved her immediately for her authenticity that almost felt noble to me, for her heart of deep active compassion toward animals, for her humor, and her stories. She was such a storyteller with a strength of memory that seems rare. She spoke of her parents with fondness and her own life with nostalgia for yesteryear and I enjoyed listening.

    Abby Kumpel says:

She had few close friends, but she cherished you. Thank you for being on Team Linda all these years.

Abby, Alan and family: We were so sorry to hear of Linda’s passing. She was such a nice person. We moved away from Beaumont in 2019, so we hadn’t seen her in quite a while. We always enjoyed seeing her with your Dad at the Temple, and of course, your dear mother, so long ago. Our thoughts are with you all.

    Abby Kumpel says:

Hello, Mindy! Thank you so much for these kind words.
