Linden Paul Berg
Linden Paul Berg, 62, passed away on May 13, 2025, in his hometown of Sabine Pass, Texas. Lin was born on July 17, 1962, in Port Arthur, Texas to James Russell Berg and Lois Ann Berg.
Lin was especially proud of his hometown of Sabine Pass and cared deeply for the community and everyone who lived there. He served as a Sabine Pass Port Commissioner for over 30 years, a role that he treasured.
Lin was a gifted mechanic and was probably born with a wrench in his hand. He spent most of his life working with anything he could get his hands on and especially loved a good “side of the road” find. His fixes may not have been textbook, but his knack for knowing just what to do to make it work was impressive, and sometimes that meant just beating it with a hammer.
Lin loved his grandchildren more than anything in this entire world. He spoke of them with such pride and love. Just being with them would bring tears to his eyes because he was a big ol’ soft teddy bear of a Pops. He was so proud of Kinley and Kailyn and everything they accomplished in school this year. He spent most weekends getting up before the sun to play with Callan and Cohen. Pops always came with donuts in the morning, became a human jungle gym, was the perfect monster truck track, and let them listen to (mostly inappropriate) music and videos on his phone. His youngest granddaughter, Quinn, just learned to say “Pops” and that had to have been the greatest last gift he could have ever received.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Linda; his daughter, Tanya Henslee and husband, Damon Henslee; his son, Russell Berg and spouse, Jessica Almond; his grandchildren, Kailyn Velasquez, Kinley Velasquez, Callan Henslee, Cohen Henslee, and Quinn Berg. Lin is also survived by his adored mother, Lois Berg; his brothers, Travis Berg and Shane Berg, their families and numerous cherished nieces and nephews who meant so very much to him. All he ever wanted was his family around him. It was when he was happiest.
He was preceded in death and welcomed into his next life by his son, Michael Joseph Berg; his father, James Russell Berg; his nephew, Ryan Russell Berg; and his best friend, Jeffrey Paul Peltier. Their reunion must have been the most rowdy and joyous of parties.
A gathering of Lin’s family and friends will begin at 5:00 p.m., with his Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, May 18, 2025, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. His funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 19, 2025, at Broussard’s, with his interment to follow at Sabine Pass Cemetery, Sabine Pass. A reception will follow the interment at the Sabine Pass Community Center, 5262 South Gulfway Drive, Sabine Pass.

Tanya and Damon,
We are so sorry to hear of your loss. Please know that you have our most sincere condolences. Margareth and I did not have the honor of meeting your dad except briefly at your wedding. It is our loss and one of the costs of living at a distance from family. Lin’s obituary was well written and an emotional read; my regards to the author(s).
Lin always helped me with anything I needed in the port and always shared conversations anytime I saw him at the port and around town. He was a friendly guy and had a good sense of humor!
Prayers for the entire family.
