Louis “Wayne” Jefferson
Louis “Wayne” Jefferson was born on May 2, 1953 and made his journey to heaven March 30, 2023. Wayne’s bright smile and big laugh will be remembered by all of those who knew him. He is survived by his wife and love of his life of 43 years, Cindy Jefferson, daughter Hollie Phillips and husband Nathan Phillips, son Micah Jefferson and wife Paulina Jefferson, brother Jeff Walker and wife Pam Walker, brother Web Riera and wife Kristal Riera, sister Cathy Butler and husband Dan Butler, sister Shirley Smalling and husband Dickey Smalling, brother Eddie Haylock, grandchildren Chesley Phillips, Drew Phillips, Omar Grynchajt, Seth Gomez, Mya Grynchajt, Morgan Jefferson, and Charlotte Jefferson.
Wayne was raised by his grandparents in Nederland, TX where he lived for most of his life. He graduated from Nederland High School in 1971 and tried his hand at college. In December 1971 he convinced his buddy Mike to join the Navy with him, where I’m sure they had some good times together. Illness ended his short career in the Navy, and after his recovery, he became an electrician. In 1979 he married Cindy, and they started a family together. Wayne devoted many years of his life to St. Elizabeth hospital in Beaumont, TX, where he served as a Bio-Med supervisor and an ICU nurse. He leaves behind many St. E. friends that love him dearly, to continue taking excellent care of those of us who live in Southeast TX. A small group of Christians in Nederland started Triangle Baptist Church in 1988 where Wayne served Jesus Christ alongside many brothers and sisters. After a liver transplant in 2014, Wayne medically retired and stayed here on earth 9 more years. He never complained about feeling sick or being in pain. He stayed busy tinkering around outside, usually without a shirt. We all know you could find Wayne in his garage listening to music and sitting with his cats.
Wayne is special to so many people, and we will all carry our memories for our entire lives. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, brothers, and many friends. Wayne will be missed by all of us that love him, but we know he is rocking and rolling in heaven in the presence of Jesus. May we all keep the loving, giving spirt of Wayne in our hearts as we continue here on earth, till we meet with him again in heaven.
A gathering of Mr. Jefferson’s family and friends will be from 4:00 p.m. until 5:30 p.m., with his memorial service at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at Triangle Baptist Church, 3605 U.S. 69 Access Road, Nederland, with a dinner to follow. Cremation arrangements were handled through Broussard’s Crematorium under the direction of Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland.

Wayne was a fine man and good friend growing up. As life is, we grew up and hardly saw one another. But each time I saw him I was reminded of what a big loving heart he had. His smile was contagious.

Wayne was a student of mine at C. O. Wilson Junior High School in Nederland in 1966-’67, and I remember well what an engaging youngster he was. I am heartened to read that his life touched so many other lives in such positive ways. Wayne has left this world too soon. Please accept my condolences.

Sorry, to hear of Wayne’s passing. Used to have some good times back in our younger days. He and I crossed paths in our older times. Saw him and Cindy last at Schooners just a couple weeks ago. I guess God was giving me that last time to say goodbye to an old time friend. Prayers of peace and comfort for his family and friends.
Thank you for your kind words.
