Louise Hogg Roach
Louise Hogg Roach, a longtime resident of Nederland, Texas, known for her intelligence, determination and fierce independence, died peacefully in her sleep on the morning of February 22, 2025, at her residence in San Antonio. She was 98 years old.
She was born May 15, 1926, in an oil patch in Ellerson, Arkansas, to Grant Allen Hogg and Donnie Louise Marsh Hogg. The youngest of their three daughters, she grew up alongside her sisters, Everetta, four years her senior, and Martha Belle, two years older. They were raised in El Dorado, Arkansas, a time Louise fondly remembered, particularly her school years and memories of the Class of 1944.
Louise attended Arkansas State Teachers College for two years before transferring to Texas State College for Women (now Texas Woman’s University). She graduated in 1948 with a Bachelor of Science in institution management. From 1948 to 1952, she worked as a dietitian for the Nederland Independent School District.
While living and working in Nederland, she met Dr. Fred Roach Jr., a dentist in town. They married in 1950 – she always had a good laugh telling folks about how her wedding was a “Hogg-Roach” wedding. Louise and Fred raised their two children, Marjorie “Margie” Katherine and Frederick “Ricky” Alton Roach III in Nederland. Over the years, they enjoyed traveling, participating in community and faith activities, and family life. Louise especially cherished her involvement with the Nederland Historical Society and First United Methodist Church.
Fred passed away in 1999, but Louise didn’t slow down, continuing to travel (both domestically and abroad) while staying engaged in various activities and the lives of her family and friends. A passionate historian and genealogist, she traced her family’s lineage back several centuries.
In 2010, Louise moved from Nederland to San Antonio to be closer to some of her family. She was a member of Alamo Heights United Methodist Church and the Kum Dubblers Sunday school class and was known as a dedicated prayer warrior. She enjoyed socializing with new friends, attending activities in her retirement community, going to church, listening to music, and dancing—especially at her birthday celebrations each year.
She is survived by her daughter, Margie Tipton of San Antonio; son, Ricky Roach of Beaumont; granddaughter, Jennifer Johnson (Michael); great-grandchildren, Emily “Cate” Johnson and Grace Johnson, Christine Impastato and Robbie Roach, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters; husband; granddaughter, Emily Larkin; and son-in-law, James “Jimmy” Tipton.
A gathering of Mrs. Roach’s family and friends will be 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday, February 28, 2025, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. Her graveside service will begin at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, 618 Block Street, Port Neches.

Sorry for the loss of your mother. I have such fond memories of her when we took jazzercise back in the 80’s at the Methodist Church in Nederland.
Mrs. Roach was always a pleasure to be around. Very full of life and laughs. During our visits she would enjoy telling stories about her life. I know she is well loved and had many great memories with family. She was at peace and knew the Lord would call her when he needed her. Until we meet again. My deepest condolences to Margie and Mrs. Roaches loving family. I will always remember her blowing kisses.
Love,

On behalf of the residents and staff of The Village at Incarnate Word, especially those of Angelique House Assisted living, I offer our deepest condolences to Margie and Ricky and all of Louise’s family and friends. It was our privilege and pleasure to have her in our community the last two years. She definitely kept everyone on our toes with her witty comments and was so good with doing her hall-walking exercise daily. May God whom she loved and served so well, grant all of you peace and strength at this difficult time.
Thank You So Much Sister Shirley. We were So Blessed to be there among such caring staff and residents. God definitely dwells in Angelic House . ❤️

Margie,
Deepest condolences my dear friend. I hope you know how much Bruce and I loved being around your mom the two years we were your neighbor in San Antonio. Her brilliant mind amazed us! And her sassy quips kept us laughing. I always looked forward to your updates on her through the last 7 years and definitely looked forward to her great Halloween and birthday photos 😃
Love that your granddaughters got to know and spend many years with their great grandmother. What a gift!
You daughter, were an incredible, loving caregiver to your mom! Well done.
