Lucille Arnold Kane

Lucille Arnold Kane, 90, of Beaumont, born and raised in Bristol, Tennessee, died Friday, August 1, 2025, at her home after a lengthy illness. She was born on January 8, 1935, to Una Blanche Arnold and John Carroll Arnold.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 45 years, Dr. William P. “Bill” Kane and her siblings, Jack Arnold, Vergie Dutton, Ruby Whitaker, Sue Cox, and Jay Arnold. Lucille is survived by her daughter, Ann-Marie A. Kane of Beaumont and sister, Ann Laster of Culpeper, Virginia, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

After graduating from Holston Valley High School, Lucille moved to Richmond, Virginia, to continue her love of learning and be close to her older sister, Vergie Dutton and her husband, Elgin. She moved into a boarding house and started working at a financial institution. One of her roommates set her up on a blind date with Bill Kane, who turned out to be the love of her life. They dated almost one year and then married on July 16, 1960. Lucille continued working at the bank and then pursued her first of three degrees, a Bachelor of Science at Richmond Professional Institute (RPI), graduating in 1966.  After her daughter, Ann-Marie, was born she started volunteering at Chippenham Hospital, a precursor to her later profession. Lucille then pursued the second of her three degrees by completing a Masters of Humanities in 1974 from the University of Richmond. Three years later, her husband, Bill, learned he was being transferred from the DuPont Spruance Plant in Richmond to Sabine River Works in Orange, Texas.

After settling in Beaumont, the Kane family became active parishioners at St. Anne Catholic Church, where Lucille served as a Eucharistic Minister, helped with the Altar Society, and prayed weekly in the Adoration Chapel. She continued her love of volunteering by helping at St. Elizabeth Hospital. Her desire to continue learning and passion for helping those she saw come through the doors of St. Elizabeth led her to going back to school for her third and final degree. Lucille received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Lamar University in 1982. She worked at St. Elizabeth Hospital in both Orthopedics and then became Nurse Manager of Neuro/Neuro ICU, retiring in 1995. Soon after retiring, Lucille turned right around and volunteered weekly at St. Elizabeth Hospital until 2020.

Lucille loved spending time with her family playing golf, working in the yard, going to lunch with her friends from the Newmann Club, and attending 49+. She truly looked forward to the annual family golfing vacations to Myrtle Beach, Gulf Shores, and Biloxi.

A gathering of Mrs. Kane’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, August 7, 2025, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 8, 2025, at St. Anne Catholic Church, 2715 Calder Avenue, Beaumont, with her interment to follow at Haven of Rest Cemetery, Beaumont.
