Marcia Harris

August 25, 1954 - August 4, 2021

Marcia Gammage Harris died Wednesday, August 4, 2021. She and her husband Lynn Harris were residing in Mauriceville, Orange County where they moved to her “dream home” with a wraparound porch just this year. Prior to moving to Mauriceville, the two lived in Lumberton, Hardin County, Texas. Marcia was born on August 25, 1954, in Beaumont, to her mother, Anna Carolyn Arterberry Gammage (NanNaw) and her Father, James Ernest Gammage (Poppa). Marcia was a 1972 graduate of French High School and a proud member of the Buffalo Bells Drill Team. Marcia and Lynn were long time residence of Lumberton and raised their two boys there. She was a substitute teacher at Lumberton ISD, she retired from Gulf States Utilities and continued to be a huge part of the community.

Marcia touched many lives during her 66 years of life. Mimi didn’t have just two boys, she had two boys, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and countless other children that she called her own. Cameron and Parker shared their mother with many others, as they knew she was a “mom” to many. No one that met Marcia ever doubted her love for family and friends. You weren’t just a friend you were part of her family and will always be. If you were lucky enough to meet Marcia, then you have experienced a once in a lifetime friend. Her love for people, not just her family, was shown throughout everything she did. Marcia would show up on your doorstep with Valentine, Easter, birthday, Christmas goodies; giving for her was genuine and her blessing to many. She had many friends that remained super close to her, and their monthly luncheons/brunches were very important to her.

Marcia had many hobbies and if you ever saw Marcia at a football game, baseball game, shower, party, or any other special event she was always behind a camera. That was a passion, a hobby, a job, and we all loved her for that. She would create scrapbooks, photobooks, and picture collages for everyone she took pictures for.

Marcia loved people, loved her family and friends but the one person that everyone knew was the apple of her eye was her grandson, Paxton. In the short 7 years, Yaya never missed a thing of Paxton’s from baseball, football, grandparent luncheons, awards, etc.

Marcia’s survivors include her husband, Lynn Harris; her mother, Anna Gammage of Beaumont; her two sons, Cameron Harris and his wife, Kaleigh of Vidor and Parker Harris and his wife, Breanna of Silsbee; grandson, Paxton Harris and a new granddaughter, Hallie Harris; her siblings Jim Gammage and his wife, Leslie of Leander; Frank Gammage and his wife, Shuan of Lumberton and Melanie Enderle and her husband, Paul of Kountze and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and the ones she called her “adopted” children, “adopted” nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her father, James Ernest Gammage.

A gathering of Mrs. Harris’ family and friends will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 11, 2021, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Her funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 12, 2021, at Broussard’s. She will be laid to rest immediately following at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont.

    Lynn and boys,
We just learned today that we lost Marcia and we are so sad. She was a very good friend. Tyler remembers that she was the one that gave him the nickname “Hollywood” in baseball. Those were some good times. She was one of the sweetest, caring and loving person that we know. We will truly miss her. Our prayers are with you.

I am devastated at the news of Marcia’s leaving us to a better and more peaceful atmosphere. I knew Marcia loved taking photographs of the kiddos while they were in their primes of being just that, kiddos. And then making great memories of every moment of people’s lives through photography. I can remember one photo I particularly was fond of: That was of Brent playing Lumberton High Football, he was making a block against a Nederland Defensive lineman who never had a chance. That was a moment in my life that Marcia made an impact from the beginning. And she was very particular and direct about her ways. That was just the beginning of many moments she captured that will last me a lifetime. I can’t thank Lynn, Cameron and Parker enough for sharing her with us. I can only hope and pray for you all to have a peaceful moment through these difficult times. I’ll say with all of my heart that my wife Linda and I are here for you at this difficult time in your lives. Love you all.

Tommy and I were devastated when we heard the news about Marcia’s passing. She was a very close friend since 6th grade and she was always the most caring person. If you were ill, she brought food and anything else you needed. If it was time to celebrate, she was ALWAYS there. In times of need, she would sit with you for hours. Comforting you when the pain was unbearable. We’ve shared many meals together, these past few years, and had promised each other another one as soon as we came home from Colorado. I’m going to miss my dear, precious friend. I’m going to miss her smile, her sassiness and the love we shared. Until we meet again…Rest in Peace. Love you…”ETIE”❤️❤️

Lynn Mark, Cameron, Parker, Anna, Jim, Melanie, Scooter & the rest of the family - my sincere condolences on your tragic loss. Fantastic memories of our times together at the honky tonks & meals shared. She loved the leather belt Ernest had made her with ‘Queenie’ stamped on the back! She loved Paxton so much and always shared pictures of him! She was so proud of her 2 boys & the men they have become. She would have loved Hallie and all the fun they would have had together. A shining star lost too soon.Love, Betty Lu
