Marciano Guerrero Sr.

August 26, 1940 - April 21, 2023

Marciano Antonio Guerrero, Sr., 82, of Lumberton, died Friday, April 21, 2023. He was born on August 26, 1940, in Matamoros, Mexico.

Marciano moved to Galveston, Texas when he was 16 years old with his father, Daddy ‘O Sanchez, and the rest of his family. Marciano became an experienced paint and body repairman. His first job was at a paint and body shop in Orange, Texas. He then later moved to Beaumont, Texas and started his own paint and body shop called, “Star Paint and Body Shop.”

In 1965, he married Mary Ellen, his wife of fifty-seven years, and together they had three children. In 1987, they founded Elena’s Mexican Restaurant on College Street, where it still stands today.

Marciano was an active member of the Men’s Club LULAC Council and Cristo Rey Catholic Church. For many years he was asked to emcee at local festivals, weddings and quinceañeras. Marciano loved fishing, hunting, and watching the Dallas Cowboys. Above all, he loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. His children say that he often told them, “You can buy anything, but you can’t buy more time with family.”

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ellen Guerrero; children, Judith Hernandez; Yvette Horn and her husband, Edmund Horn, Sr.; Marciano Guerrero, Jr.; and Gero Jasso; grandchildren, Carlos Hernandez, Jr. and his wife, Lizbeth; Kourtney Clark and her husband, Travis; Nicholas Hernandez; Edmund Horn, Jr. and his wife, Claudia; Ciara Horn Burkhalter and her husband, Zachary; and Jayden Guerrero; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Averi, and Raleigh Hernandez; Kylee and Gus Clark; and Mia Hernandez; sisters, Virginia Escamilla, Maria Luisa Rodriguez, Maria Del Socorro Sanchez, Alicia Alfaro,  and Dolores Sanchez; brothers, Ricardo Sanchez, Sr., Henry Enrique Sanchez, Sr., Juan Antonio Sanchez, Sr., Francisco Guerrero Sanchez, and Jesus Alfredo Sanchez.

Marciano is preceded in death by his parents, Maria Luisa Guerrero Sanchez and Lorenzo Perez Sanchez, Sr.; sisters, Dora Sanchez and his infant sister, Dora Sanchez; brothers, Emilio Sanchez, Sr., and his infant brother, Joey Sanchez.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hearing Health Foundation, P.O. Box 1397, New York, New York 10018, to continue the research done for Ménières Disease.

A Rosary for Mr. Guerrero will be recited at 5:00 p.m., with a gathering of his family and friends to follow Thursday, April 27, 2023, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 28, 2023, at St. Anne Catholic Church, 2715 Calder Avenue, Beaumont, with his interment to follow at Magnolia Cemetery, Beaumont. A reception will be held following his burial at Elena’s, 1865 College Street, Beaumont.
