Margaret Girolamo Bood

March 23, 1940 - December 2, 2024

Be full of joy in the Lord always. I will say again, be full of joy. Let everyone see that you are gentle and kind. Philippians 4:4-5

Margaret Anne Girolamo Bood, our beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2024, at the age of 84.

Maggie, as she was lovingly called, was born to Angeline and Santo Girolamo on March 23, 1940, in Beaumont, Texas. She resided in Beaumont for the entirety of her life, until June of 2024, when she moved to The Woodlands, Texas, to enjoy living closer to her grandchildren and their growing families.

She met the love of her life, Nader Bood, at Lamar Tech, and they married in 1960. Theirs was a love story that would last almost 55 years. Despite our sadness these last days, we’ve also found the sweetest comfort as we picture the joy of their heavenly reunion.

Margaret and Nader loved Beaumont and loved the circle of friends that surrounded them as they raised their family. They remained involved and engaged in our community during every stage of their lives. Our mom was an active member of the Beaumont Junior Forum, cherishing the relationships made during those years and continuing to stay active with the sustainers group. She also worked with the Neches River Festival for over 20 years, where she made countless dear friends and, undoubtedly, made sure everyone met their deadlines. After retiring from the Neches River Festival, she began selling advertising for the Symphony League of Beaumont, another role she both excelled at and enjoyed, as she loved reconnecting with her friends in the business community. She also always made time to volunteer with the Rainbow Room, Market to Hope, Sleep in Heavenly Peace and the McFaddin-Ward House. She was actively involved in cooking and serving the St. Joseph Altar each year, a tradition that was very dear to her heart.

She was a devoted Catholic and a founding member of her beloved parish, St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, where she faithfully attended Mass every week for almost 50 years.

As we reflect on the legacy of our beautiful Maggie, we believe it is this: she knew how to love well—and not only her family and friends—she knew how to love everyone well. It didn’t matter how long she had known you; it didn’t matter if you were a generation older or younger. She just loved people well. She shone with warmth and kindness…and when you were with her, you felt it. As her family, we certainly always felt it. She loved spoiling us with our favorite meals. She loved celebrating us. She loved welcoming our friends and was always so happy to add an extra plate if anyone stopped over around dinnertime. That was our Maggie: she always had an open door, open arms and an open heart. Most beautifully, though, she was the perfect grandmother for each of her grandchildren. Whatever excited them, excited her; and she happily cheered them on through countless football, soccer and basketball games, band concerts and school plays. She even took the time to read the same books the grandkids read, so there would always be plenty for her to discuss with them during visits. And, there always was! She was truly a treasure in every sense of the word.

Margaret is survived by her children, James Paul Bood of Lafayette, Louisiana and Mary Angela Lee and husband, Mark, of The Woodlands; grandchildren, David Bood and wife, Allyson, Angelina “Gina” Sanders and husband, Zach, Will Bood and wife, Sara, and Rebecca and Meredith Lee; great-grandchildren, Everly Bood, Nathan Sanders and Liam Bood; and her brother, Frank Girolamo and his wife, Elizabeth.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Nader Bood; infant son, Nader Bood, Jr.; and infant granddaughters, Kelly and Lesli Lee.

We were both saddened to hear of the passing of Margaret. She was a long time friend. Also, known to my husband, Roger as a friend. She was a loyal friend. First met her at the Neches River Festival office. She was truly a joy to work with and have as a friend. Ran into Mary and Margaret back a few months ago in Houston. We talked of getting together. So sorry I have missed this opportunity. Praying for peace and joy and you celebrate her life.

I was a student of Coach Bood and I must have missed his passing. I do not mean to slight Mrs. Bood in anyway but this story Coach told me and probably the entire Class at Beaumont High in the 1960’s goes like this.
He told ushis father was Nader Abood Nader and when he passed through Ellis Island the immigration officer asked him his name. I assume he answered in broken Arabic English said again. ” My name is Nader Abood Nader” The official said.
You are now “Nader A Bood” and that’s how his father (father in law to Mrs. Bood)entered to USA and become a citizen.
My family actually has the name Abood from George Abood and I always liked that story. Coach Bood was loved by all and i see his wife was as well.

    John & Judy Bryant says:

Our thoughts and prayers for Margaret and all of the Bood and Girolamo families. Margaret was one class ahead of me at St. Anthony High School. I would see her and Nader at St. Jude mass and afterward at the Cracker Barrel, renewing our friendship. Margaret joined our 1959 class for lunch several times and her presence was always loved. May GOD welcome her into His loving heart and arms, granting her salvation and an eternal life as a member of the family of GOD, in Heaven.
