Margaret “Peggy” Phelan Reed, Jr.
Margaret “Peggy” Phelan Reed, Jr. died on May 4, 2026, at the age of 84 after a lengthy illness.
Peggy is preceded in death by her parents, Margaret Phelan Reed and Randolph C. Reed Sr.; brothers, Randolph C. Reed Jr. and Thomas S. Reed II; sisters, Anne P. Reed, Ruby Reed Lyons, and Mary Reed Williams; life partners, Mary Lou Wilson and Dr. B. Gayle Twiname; and nephew, Randolph Thomas Roane.
She is survived by nine nieces and nephews: Art Roane, James Roane, Stephen Roane, Matt Williams, Thomas Lyons, Pia Laborde, Johannah Castleman, Joshua Lyons, and Merrick Lyons.
Peggy was born on November 1st, 1941 in Beaumont, Texas, where she was raised in the Catholic faith. She served in the Dominican Sisters of Houston Convent from 1959 until 1963. After the convent, Peggy devoted her time to caring for the community and her family in various ways. Peggy was always there for those who needed her, especially her mother, her brother, Tommy, and her sister, Ruby.
Peggy will always be revered by her loved ones for her kindness and generosity. She tirelessly cared for others. She worked to bring honor to her family by maintaining the Phelan farm in Hillister, Texas for thirty years. The farm is still visited by family and friends to this day.
In addition to her caring nature, Peggy was known for her humility, loyalty, sharpness of wit, and sense of humor. She displayed an exceptional amount of courage and toughness while enduring significant health issues. She exemplified a selfless attitude toward her own care, never wanting to impose on anyone.
Aunt Peggy will be revered, loved, and missed by all her remaining family members. She leaves a lasting legacy and is a source of pride for all the loved ones she leaves behind. Rest in Peace, Margaret Phelan Reed, Jr. We love you Aunt Peggy.
Her cremation arrangements were handled through Broussard’s Crematorium under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. A friends and family Celebration of Life for Ms. Reed will be shared at a later date.
Rest in Peace sweet Peggy!
Peggy & I shared remembrances of our days at SAHS when wet accidentally met at the eye doctors. My husband, Tommy had graduated with Peggy’s class. Such a sweet encounter. She was always someone I admired. May she rest in God’s loving presence.
I remember us all the way from 1st grade on. We were friends and remained that way. God has you now! I will pray for you Peggy. Love. Sandra Aycock Reynolds.
