Marilyn “Dee” Leger
Marilyn “Dee” Leger, 92, of Hamshire, died Wednesday, January 4, 2023. She was born November 24, 1930, in Lacassine, Louisiana, to Essie and Jerdy Vizinat.
Marilyn “Dee” married Allen Leger in 1950 and moved to Texas in 1955. She always said this was the happiest time of her life, having children and taking care of her family and home. Throughout the years, she was a great seamstress, sewing all of our clothes, plus cooking three meals a day and washing a lot of cloth diapers. Losing daddy at age 61, she learned to be independent for the first time. She started traveling and spending time with her brother and sister-in-law. They loved to frequent the casinos all over Louisiana – it was another great time of her life. She was a cancer survivor twice. We always called her our “tough cookie.” Later years, she loved to read and work her puzzles. She lived a wonderful and happy life and never complained. She was a kind, compassionate, loving, faith-filled child of God who loved her family, the Blessed Mother, and “her Jesus” with all her heart.
Her caregivers, Adaluz, Martina, Anita, Mena, whom she loved dearly, took special care of her. All the family would like to extend our greatest appreciation for the love and tenderness all the caregivers gave our mom.
Survivors include her children, Monica Jones and husband, Scott; Susan Folsom and husband, Fred; Rebecca Chapin and husband, Jim; and Stuart Leger and wife, Sissy; grandchildren, Ty Jones and wife, Lacey; Matt Jones and wife, Kelly; Hank Jones and wife, Tayler; Russell Leger; Terry Folsom and wife, Kristin; Michele Richard and husband, Dustin; Brent Folsom and wife, Katie; John Folsom and wife, Ashley; Jayme Chapin; Kim Hill and husband, Chase; and Kelly Strain and husband, Waylon; and twenty-nine great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Allen Leger; brother, Rod Vizinat; and sister, Dorothy Frey.
A gathering of Mrs. Leger’s family and friends will be 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Monday, January 9, 2023, with a Rosary recited at 5:00 p.m., at Broussard’s, 134 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at St. Louis Catholic Church, 315 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie, with her interment to follow at Fairview Cemetery, Winnie.
Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Leger’s honor to St. Louis Catholic Church Pew Restoration Project, 315 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie, Texas 77665.
