Martha V. Palmer

August 16, 1951 - December 8, 2024

In passing, we all hope for a peaceful journey into the Lord’s loving arms, and Martha embodied the light she followed to the gates of heaven early Sunday morning. She received her heavenly wings at 6:50 am on Sunday, December 8th. After battling Parkinson’s, the Lord granted her wish of being home surrounded by her family and best friends.

Many are measured by what they accomplished or by how much they made in life, but this is not the case for Martha Palmer. Her life was measured by those she loved, those who loved her, and the many descriptors she embodied. She was a Christ-following believer; an incredible wife; an embracing and loving mother to her girls and so many others; a besotted and sexy Grammie; an adored starfish sister; a phenomenal educator; a sassy T.J. Red Hussar; a best friend to all in need; a lover of reading and books; a life-saving bone marrow donor, a traveler of this wide-world; a comforting embrace; and an involved member of Service League of Port Arthur,  Delta Kappa Gamma, Professional Educators Organization, Golden Triangle Emmaus, Friday Lunch Bunch, Temple Women’s group, and various Bible studies and volunteer organizations.

Martha leaves behind her soulmate and the love of her life after 52 years of marriage, Monty Palmer; her legacy of caregiving and educating the world with her two daughters and sons-in-law, Beth and Faris Mondey as well as Diane and Errol Johnson; additionally, her magnum opus of grandchildren who embody the best of her: Connor, Brayden, and Addison Mondey and Ethan and Darby Johnson. Finally, her nephews who are progeny of her amazing sister, kind-hearted Michael and vivacious Richard McDuff.

Martha was preceded in death and welcomed with open arms in heaven by her parents, Duval and Marie Futch, and we have no doubt she is dancing in heaven with her sister, Mary Beth McDuff, aka Sissie.

I worked with Martha when she taught Kindergarten at DeQueen School in PAISD. She was an excellent teacher and an exceptional person. It was an honor to know her. May God welcome her to paradise.

She was an excellent teacher and a wonderful person. Our son was lucky to have her.

    Vickie Sauerwein says:

Monty and Family: I was so shocked and saddened to see Martha’s picture on Broussard‘s website today. Both my children had Martha for their kindergarten teacher, and, as you know, we attended church with her at First United Methodist Church in Port Neches . Martha was a very sweet and kind person and a wonderful teacher. I know her death will leave a hole in your hearts, but I am praying for comfort and peace for you.

    Audra Roddy says:

So so sorry! My heart is so heavy but at the same time so full of love and joy knowing my sweet friend is rejoicing in Heaven with my Jesus!
I had not really know Martha but for a few years. I knew her enough to know how amazing of a women of God she was. To know her was to LOVE her instantly ! I will miss her Greatly, and continue to lift up Monty and Family!

    Beryl Lough Miller says:

Sending my sincerest condolences. I met Martha years ago when I became a Red Hussar at Thomas Jefferson High School. Martha was ahead of me in school, but she was a favorite; always so sweet, so kind and helpful. Later in life we both taught Kindergarten in PAISD. Once again I met up with her at The Temple.
I had no idea she has been ill. I am very saddened to see that she has passed. She will be missed by many old friends! Love & prayers for her family.

    Robin Ervin says:

Oh how sweet Martha will be missed! Her constant joy and encouragement is what drew me to her. No matter the obstacles before her, she never failed to be concerned for others. In the past couple of months when I checked on her as I knew she was struggling, she always followed up with asking about me and my girls and had such excitement for me to become a grandmother. Martha will forever be cherished by so many! What an amazing example she was of how to love Jesus. So much love and prayers for Monty and the family will continue. I consider myself blessed to have known this wonderful woman of God.

    Sherry Weldon says:

Martha was about as perfect a person as I’ve ever known. The saying, “God only takes the best” is certainly true here. Monty, Beth and Diane – you and your families are in our prayers.

    Mary Ann Bescher says:

Martha was a prayer warrior. She prayed for my daughter during her illness. Through my sister I got to know Martha, Monty, Beth & Diane. Martha was kind, funny & so giving. She is now at peace with her Lord. Love to her family

    Nancy Alexander says:

So heartbroken to hear about Martha. She was a wonderful woman and a great teacher. My two oldest both had her for Kindergarten, and I subbed a few times. Over the years several kids would ask me if I was Mrs. Palmer. I always felt a little honored to be mistaken for such a special lady.

    Richard Stockton says:

So very sorry for you loss she was a very sweet lady

    Julie Gallier says:

Mrs. Palmer was my Kindergarten teacher and my family had the pleasure to be friends with her + her family. She was an amazing educator, mentor, mother, friend, and colleague to my mother. I had the honor to become an educator myself and I owe some part of that to her. I even got to work with her daughter Diane for a few years and enjoyed talking to her + catching up on how her Mom was doing. I will truly miss seeing her at sorority meetings and I will cherish the memories of her. I will pray for her family during this time.

Thank you Mrs. Palmer for being an extraordinary educator and friend.
