Mary Brady Chaney

August 12, 1924 - October 7, 2022

Mary Brady Chaney, 98, of Beaumont, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2022, surrounded by family.

She was born on August 12, 1924, in China, Texas, at home, to Clarise and Eugene Martel and was one of six children. Mary began working for The White House in the early 70s and from there began her long career in the banking industry starting at Gateway National Bank, Beaumont to M. Bank of Beaumont, and then to Parkdale Bank. She loved her work so much that she spent 30 years in the banking industry. Her smile and laugh were infectious, and she loved her co-workers like family. Working was her passion, and she was extremely good at whatever jobs she ever took on. She retired about 80 years of age from the banking business, but she still wasn’t done yet. She went on to work for Frankie’s Italian Grill in Beaumont as a cashier and soon became the talk of the town. This sweet little 5 foot 2 firecracker greeted everyone who walked through that door and made certain that they each left with a smile on their face. Mary loved to spend time with her family and friends, enjoyed cooking, and loved to dance. She also enjoyed watching golf and the Little League World Series every year, and if she had the chance, she also loved to get away to one of the casinos in Lake Charles to play a few penny slots.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband and one true love of 24 years, George A. Brady, Sr., who she married in 1947 and lost in February of 1971; also her parents; brothers, Eugene Martel and Joseph Martel; and sister, Bernice Martel.

She is survived by her three sons and their wives, George A. Brady, Jr. and his wife, Melissa Brady, of Silsbee; Joseph Lynn Brady and his wife, Elaine Brady, of Hamshire; and Paul Bradley Brady and his wife, Patricia Brady, of Lumberton; brother, Michael Martel and his wife, Donna; and sister, Barbara Fortenberry; along with 5 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; countless nieces and nephews; 3 step-grandchildren; and 8 step-great-grandchildren.

Mary, mom, mamaw, granny, sister, will be truly missed by so many, but the life she lived and the legacy she left will never be forgotten. She will forever be in our hearts.

A gathering of Mrs. Chaney’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 6:00 p.m., Monday, October 10, 2022, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Dylan & Clarice, We remember this delightful lady from Frankie’s where she made us feel welcome! It was a pleasure to talk to her, and our grandkids liked her too! I’m sorry for your loss but thankful you had many years with her in your family.

    Sonny,
Regrets to hear about your mom. What a great & long life! I still remember our Little League days with her taking us or attending our games. Hard to fathom it’s been almost 70 yrs since the West End LL! My prayers with your family, I’m so sorry for the loss, no matter when they go, it’s a shock and we’re ill-prepared for it.
One of my favorite passages is…’We blossom & flourish, like leaves on the tree…but wither & perish but naught changeth Thee!’ God Bless you during this difficult time.

Bertha was loved by many and will be greatly missed. She loved life-and loved people. We shared so many good times and those memories will always be a part of me. She considered me a daughter and my love for her and her love for me remained true throughout these many. She has joined her loved ones in heaven now, especially Buddy. I know her heart is happy now.
