Mary E. Lewis
Mary E. Lewis, 90, died on Sunday, September 14, 2025, in Richmond, Texas. She was born on July 15, 1935, to Herbert Smith and Hilda (Pete) Smith, in Church Point, Louisiana.
She was a long-time resident of Beaumont, Texas, for over 65 years and also had been a resident of Houston, San Angelo, and Richmond, Texas.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Hilda Smith; husband, Raymond P. Lewis, Sr.; son James Minix; daughter, Ercell Marie Minix; stepson, Leonard Lewis; siblings: brother, Doris Smith and sisters, Grace Clark and Clara Aubrey; and ex-husband, Ray Minix, Sr.
Survivors include her children, Ray Minix, Jr. (Beauty) San Angelo, John Minix (Rosie) Galveston, Murline J Minix (Donna) Richmond, Stephen M Minix (Cynthia) Houston, Mary M (Minix) Pommier (Jeffrey) Spring, Cynthia (Lewis) Smith (Emory) Beaumont, Raymond P. Lewis, Jr., and Timothy Lewis; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; siblings, Catherine McDonald, Carrie Lyons, Rose Renfro, Alfred Smith, and James V Smith, Sr.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary and Raymond P. Lewis, Sr. had been married for over four decades. They also raise one of their grandchildren, Kendrick L. Perkins, Sr., the only son of Ercell Marie Minix (Deceased).
Mary loved and was active for years at Our Mother of Mercy Church. She loved to go fishing, watch her grandkids and watch sports.
A gathering of Mrs. Lewis’ family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, September 25, 2025, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. A Rosary for Mrs. Lewis will be recited at 1:15 p.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 26, 2025, at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church, 3390 Sarah Street, Beaumont. Her entombment will follow at Magnolia Cemetery, Beaumont.
There will be a repast at Sarah Street Wellness Group, 3455 Sarah Street, Beaumont, following her service.

My sincere condolences goes out to her family and all those who loved her. She was a very loving person. I know she will be missed, but take solace in the fact that she is now resting and resting in the arms of our Heavenly Father. She and all her sisters when they were younger and able attended every family funeral, in Beaumont and Church Point. Rest in peace 🙏🏼❤️🙏🏼😇
To the Minix and Lewis families, please accept my sincere sympathy in the loss of Ms. Mary Lewis. I did not know her well, but I know her son and daughter-in-law, who are just like family to me. I love them and I know they loved her, because they showed it! Losing a mother is something that only time can heal. But remember, Earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal. Be encouraged family.
