Mary Ellen Spears
Mary Ellen Spears, born on October 8, 1929, was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She passed away on September 12, 2024, peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of faith, love, and kindness. Baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses at the age of 14 on April 18, 1943, her faith and dedication to Jehovah God shaped her life and the lives of those around her.
Predeceased by her beloved husband, Teddy Spears, Mary Ellen is survived by her five children: Timothy Spears, Teddie Ann Spears, Kim Lee Spears, Tammie Calvert (husband Lawrence), and Christine Simonson (husband Bob). She also leaves behind 13 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved and felt blessed to be a part of their life.
Mary Ellen’s love for Jehovah God began at an early age, nurtured by her grandmother, Bertha Ellen Wakefield. Together, they engaged in the ministry, sharing the good news of God’s Kingdom with their neighbors. Mary Ellen cherished her memories of going in the door-to-door ministry, playing the phonograph with her grandmother, and proudly wearing the cloth witness bags in downtown San Antonio to announce Jehovah’s Kingdom.
She placed her complete trust in God’s promise of a restored earth, ruled by Jesus Christ, where all will live in peace and happiness. She firmly believed in the Bible’s promises, particularly the resurrection hope found in John 5:28-29, and looked forward to a time when Revelation 21:3-4 would be fulfilled, bringing an end to death and suffering.
Her family and friends will miss her deeply but find comfort in the hope of being reunited with her in paradise growing to perfection without the effects of inherited Adamic sin. There will be no sickness, death or the influence from Satan. Until then, she is in Jehovah’s memory, and we can hold her memory close as we eagerly await the time, we will see her again.
Mary Ellen’s life was a beautiful testimony to her faith, and her love for Jehovah, her family, and her community will never be forgotten.
