Mary Frances Gunter Burgess
Mary Frances Gunter Burgess was born July 16, 1937, to Lillie Schulemberg Gunter and Mark Gunter, in Sour Lake, Texas.
She was raised by her mother and stepfather. He worked for pipeline companies, and they moved around a lot. Frances was always glad to get back to Texas.
She was married to Reed Burgess on March 10, 1956. They had two beautiful children, Marcella Burgess and Christine Sublett.
After moving to Hamshire, she became a member of First Baptist Church in 1957. She worked in Sunday School and was a teacher and leader of Girls Auxiliary. She loved the Lord and His word. She loved to have the Bible read to her before bedtime.
She was a Mary Kay consultant and enjoyed being a member of Hamshire-Fannett Beta Sigma Phi. She loved to work in the yard and loved her family.
Frances had an unusual passion for animals. She loved babies, elderly people, and would go out of her way to help anyone. I never knew a more generous person than Frances. She would give something to help people that she never saw again.
She is survived by her husband, Reed Burgess; children, Marcella Burgess and Christine Sublett and husband, Joe; grandsons, Christopher Sublett and wife, Lauren, and Anthony Hurst; great-grandchildren, Kinley Sublett and Austin Sublett; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
She is preceded in death by her parents and stepfather; and siblings, Lillie Daily, Elizabeth Ingram, Annabelle Mitchell, Fred Lee, Ray “Buster” Lee, William Lee, and Johnny Lee.
A gathering of Mrs. Burgess’s family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m., with her funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 27, 2025, at Broussard’s, 134 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie. Her interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Winnie.
