Mary Heiner Bauer
Mary Katherine Heiner Bauer was born August 14, 1932, to Adolph Heiner, Sr and Lydia Schiesler Heiner in Beaumont Texas. Mary was brought to Jesus in Holy Baptism on September 18, 1932, at St. John Lutheran Church in Beaumont, Texas where she publicly affirmed her faith in the rite of Confirmation on April 25, 1945.
She was joined in marriage to Robert Bauer on June 26, 1949, at St John Lutheran Church in Beaumont. She devoted herself to her Lord, to her family, and to their rice farm and cattle ranch. In 1973, they became charter members of Hope Lutheran Church in Winnie, Texas. Mary was involved in many activities at the church. She was very active in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, enjoying many district and national conventions. She and Robert also supported Concordia Lutheran University in Austin in many ways. She served as a 4-H leader for many years in Nome, Texas teaching many cooking and sewing classes. She was a proud graduate of South Park High School Class of 1949 and enjoyed lunch gatherings with her classmates for many years. Her yeast rolls were expected at the monthly lunch and games with her longtime friends in Nome. She took great joy in providing food for many, especially her Maple Pecan Ring. She also was active in the Winnie community and frequently visited friends at the Arboretum.
Survivors include her children, Carol Walther and husband, Michael, of Maryville, Illinois; Janet Taylor and husband, Tim, of Houston; and Linda Bauer, of Bastrop; daughter-in-law, Christie Bauer of Winnie; fifteen grandchildren, Gerald Bauer, Sherri Tidwell, Jennifer Abshire, Brandon Erickson, Katherine Dube, Emily Penney, Jonathan Erickson, Aaron Walther, David Walther, Paul Walther, Stephen Walther, Lydia Walther, Travis Taylor, Everett Taylor, and Grant Taylor; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Edward Bauer; parents; children, Jack Bauer and Marilyn Erickson; and great-great-grandson, Allen Mengers. The entire Bauer family is grateful for the care and service of Mitzi Hoverson, allowing Mary to live independently.
A gathering of Mrs. Bauer’s family and friends will be 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, May 11, 2023, at Broussard’s, 134 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie. Her funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 12, 2023, at Hope Lutheran Church, 1322 9th Avenue, Winnie, with her interment to follow at Fairview Cemetery, Winnie.

The Bauers are long time family friends for all Lanfords, Noltes, and many other rice farming families. I especially have fond memories of the Bauer children from school: Jack, and Marilyn. Carol, Janet, and Linda. All are extraordinary people from our lives. Love to all and pleasant memories.
I remember Mary with a kind, sweet, loving smile on her face. She loved her family, and I know you all will miss her greatly. My love and prayers are with her family.
There was never a time that I saw Mary that she wouldn’t speak. So kind and a special lady. She lived a wonderful life and raised a great family. Prayers for the family.

Dear, sweet Mrs. Bauer. She raised a wonderful family and was so gracious and hospitable to me when I would spend the night with Marilyn in my high school days. My sincere condolences to Carol, Janet, Linda, Christie and all the grands. I know you all will miss her very much.
Sorry too hear about Mary, Mrs. Bauer passing away, She was one of the sweetest ladies and always had a smile. Prayers for all.
What a life! What a legacy! The Bauer family has been so gracious in supporting my work. And Mary, the tireless, generous matriarch, joyfully gave so much of her energy and encouragement during my times at their farm/ranch. May God bless the family and give comfort in this difficult time.
Mary was a dear friend to all of us at our monthly luncheon in Nome. We will miss her sweet smile and of course her delicious rolls. Prayers to her family.
