Mary Laurie Jennings
Mary Laurie Jennings, 88, of Lumberton, died Thursday, March 23, 2023. She was born on June 15, 1934, in Beaumont, to Frances “Fannie” Newana Allums Wier and Stuart Taylor Wier, MD.
Survivors include her husband, Otis Jennings; children, Stuart Wier Ford and his wife, Pat, and Mary Frances Story and her husband, Mark, all of Houston; grandchildren, Stuart Ford and his wife, Madi; Kelley Eubanks and her husband, Jack; Taylor Baucum and her husband, Brett, all of Houston; and Ford Story and his wife, Bre, of Fort Worth; great-grandchildren, Emmeline, Lyles, Mary Atley, Hayes, Miller, Gready, Bowen, and Hadley; nieces, Jane Callender and her husband, Mark, of Beaumont, and Ann Huey and her husband, Martin, of Lancaster. She is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Virginia Huey McDonnel.
A celebration of life will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 13, 2023, at Journey Community Church, 1534 Highway 96, Lumberton, with reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hooks Cemetery, P.O. Box 812, Kountze, Texas 77625.

Met Laurie during my husband’s ( Bob Wiggins) illness. She was such a blessing for both of us, a strong prayer warrior , sweet loving caring lady .

Laurie was indeed a talented precious friend that will be sorely missed.
No doubt she’s dancing on streets of glory. She leaves a wonderful legacy with her Popurri letters she wrote & mailed to all who were interested. I enjoyed working on them with her & hearing about her adventures as well as special articles of interest she found. Loved making her favorite chocolate chip cookies whenever we got together.
Prayers for Otis who was her special husband who took excellent care of her.
Precious memories memories of visits to the beautiful home in the middle of the woods. She will be sorely missed.

I dearly loved Laurie. She is my cousin on the Chance side I didn’t get to know Laurie until later in life, but once I met her, it was hard to believe that she and my dad didn’t grow up together, she felt like family. She was a superb musician, and I had the opportunity to work professionally with her in that capacity. She could play anything I gave her from Vivaldi to Bach but she never realized how incredibly talented she was. I tried to tell her over and over how talented she was, but she was so modest, and so willing to give all of the credit to God that I don’t think she ever really knew how talented she was. While I got to know her late, we spent a lot of time together, and I learned to love her dearly. We saved the memories of a lot of dead people together! We both treasured our pioneer Chance family ancestry. I will miss her so so much. Fly high sweet Laurie! I will see you again!
I am Choirmaster-Organist Emeritus of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Beaumont, having served for 24 years, retiring at the end of 2018. In high school I sang in the Youth Choir at First United Methodist where I heard Laurie superbly play the organ. After I began at St. Mark’s in 1994, Laurie attended several funerals during my tenure, and it was so nice to see her again. She passed on her organ music to me since she had stopped playing the organ. She was a beautiful, gracious lady and it was a privilege to have her friendship!
Stuart- we are so sorry to hear your mom passed away. She & my mom were dear friends & had many great adventures. Mom is not well & I did tell her about your mom but she has a hard time remembering much. We are deeply sorry & wish for peace for your sweet family. God bless you. ❤️????
This is Lou. I will forever remember your piano playing at Fletcher. Your newsletters that I helped address and mail for you in the late 90’s. Lots of stories of your life and trips you made overseas. Your house was beautiful!!! Bible studies and many prayers you gave. Otis will take care of everything here;go and sing with Joel, Joyce, Mrs. Faggert, Johnny Pounders and a host of others that have gone ahead!! Will truly miss you, Lou S.
As a young man of 10, Laurie continually got me in trouble with Mary Louis Allen Ford. an example..
waking up a 10 year old on a Sunday afternoon while everyone else in the house was asleep, ask if I would like some milk and chocolate chip cookies? YES! While getting the milk and cookies ready a bolt of lightning struck the sycamore tree. Milk spilled, spatula dropped and screams were heard. Mary Louis walks in and Laurie is pointing her finger at me saying the baby wanted a cookie!????????

I have fond memories of Laurie, as she was one of my mother’s dearest friends. She was lovely, gracious and an extraordinary organist! Rest peacefully dear Laurie.
Laurie and my mother were childhood friends. I’m fortunate to have known her as well. She will be very missed.

She was a wonderful musician on any kind of keyboard and lent her talents to many church and school choirs and events. I will miss talking with her and hearing her remembrance of “the old days.” She was a family treasure, sure to be missed. What a precious person with delightful parents and sister. The light dims in our world. Butch and the Beans loved Laurie very much.
