Mary Lovenia Sonnier Hawkins
Mary Lovenia Sonnier Hawkins, 43, of Winnie, died December 4, 2023. She was born on February 17, 1980, in Galveston, to Ruby and Herbert Sonnier.
Mary graduated from East Chambers in 1998. She went to Prairie View A&M University and graduated with her bachelor’s degree in social work. She worked as a case manager and also as a teacher at a High School teaching artistic classes.
Survivors include her loving mother, Ruby Sonnier; loving husband, Michael Hawkins; son, Lenden Paul Axel; brothers, Derrick Sonnier (Kimberly), Lawrence Smith (Pricilla), Mike Perkins, Sr., and Herrera Shinette; sisters, Saundra Johnson (Joel), Kathy Hubert (Alvin), and Marissa Robinson, Kristen Smith, Stacey Smith, Theresa Robinson, Ava Wrice, Trina Carreon (Eleazor), and Carla Bazile (Sam); godparents, Alfred James Guillory, and Doreen Guillory; godchildren, Kordell David, Payton Anderson, Sevn Anderson; and a host of loving family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her father, Herbert Sonnier; brother, Charles Perkins, Sr.; sisters, Stephanie Smith and Tammy Smith; maternal grandparents, Bee and Mary Guillory, Sr.; paternal grandparents, John and Lovenia Sonnier; and cousins, Bobby Ward and Maverick Ward.
A gathering of Mrs. Sonnier’s family and friends will begin at 9:00 a.m., with a Rosary recited at 10:30 a.m., and a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 11, 2023, at St. Louis Catholic Church, 315 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie. Her interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Winnie.

I am so very sorry to hear of Mary’s passing. Prayers going forth for all of Mary’s family and friends, especially her son. RIP Mary.

Ruby my heart is so broken for you. I loved Mary such a sweet heart loved watching her play basketball and run track . Lenden is so sweet prayer for all of you.
