Mary “Putt” Williams

Mary “Putt” Williams, 77, of Anahuac, died Saturday, August 28, 2021, at Houston Methodist Hospital, Baytown. She was born January 11, 1944, to Francis Speights Rivon and Ocie Rivon, Sr. She attended and graduated from George Washington Carver. She worked at Globe, Houston, Terry’s, Chamber’s Hospital, and Chamber’s County Jail. Mary became a faithful member of Lily of the Valley Church of God In Christ and enjoyed ministering to her COGIC fellow church congregation and pastor.

Mother Mary Williams was a woman who loved God with everything within her, she loved her family, her Pastor and her church. She had a caring and giving spirit lending a hand to anyone in need. Cooking and feeding everyone, she came in contact with was something she did, BUT her true passion was her love for God.

Mother Williams was invited to a revival at the church in 1991 and that night she totally committed her life to God. Whatever her hands could do she do to glorify God that is what she did. She served faithfully as the mission, usher board and pastor aide president while working with all the other auxiliaries. She made sure the church was clean, even when she lost her key, she climbed in threw a window to clean the church. She made sure she always was the first to arrive at church greeting everyone with a big smile, tight hug and a kiss. Never, never meeting a stranger nor short on words.

O how she loved to praise and worship God giving Him all the adoration and praise He deserves. She believed and lived by Psalms 150 verses 2 and 6  “Praise him for his mighty deeds; praise him according to his excellent greatness!. . . Let everything that has breath praise the LORD! Praise the LORD!” Mother Williams was like King David she didn’t mind dancing and running around the church giving God the praise he so deserves.

Even through her illness, she still remained faithful in her praise and worship, voice impaired didn’t stop her. She still tried to sing waving that hand and praising God telling him Lord! Lord! Lord!

Her life was well lived for the Lord, Mother take your Rest!

She is survived by her daughters, Scherly Rivon; and Lawanna Williams, and special friend, Frederick Myles; grandchildren, Keisha Pete, and husband, Marlon; Tamara Moore, and special friend, Jamison King; Sheena Moore; Ray DeBlanc, Jr.; and Shawanna Bradley; great-grandchildren, Kimora Pete, Quincy Lewis, Jr., Tyrein Lewis, Jayvan Russell, and Alexis Wilridge; great-great-granddaughter, Cameron Lewis; brother, Ocie “Moon” Rivon, Jr.; sister, Lillie “Toy” Rivon; sisters-in-law, Bobbye Walls; Paula Smith and friend, Audrey Porter; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary Williams is preceded in death by her parents, Ocie and Francis Rivon; husband, Maurice “M.J.” Williams; son, Marcus Rivon; sister, Serena Roy; brothers, Willis Rivon, Elwee “Buddy” Rivon, and Walter Rivon; and sister, Annie Mae Kirkwood.

A gathering of Mrs. Williams’ family and friends will begin 11:00 a.m., with her Homegoing Celebration at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 4, 2021, at Lily of the Valley Church of God In Christ, 1222 North Main Street, Anahuac, with her interment to follow at Rivon Cemetery, Anahuac.
