Michael Howard Darby

December 10, 1955 - November 6, 2020

Michael Howard Darby, 64, of Beaumont, died Friday, November 6, 2020, at Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas, Beaumont. He was born on December 10, 1955, to Myrna Jane Mercer Darby and Joseph Howard Darby, in Beaumont.

Michael met and married Vicky in 1983. They have celebrated thirty-seven years married.

Michael worked for the LNVA at the Saltwater Barrier for many years before retiring in 2018, where he then took on the greatest job ever- just being a Paw Paw.

Michael was an avid gardener who loved to perfect his many bonsai trees. He spent many years cruising the pavement on his Harley with his wife by his side. Of all the things he loved, his two grandchildren were the greatest joys of his life. Michael never missed a soccer game, dance recital, or anything the kids wanted him there for. The word no did not exists in Paw Paw’s vocabulary.

Survivors include his mother; wife of thirty-seven years, Vicky Darby; son, Jared Darby and his wife, Stephanie; granddaughter, Harper Darby; grandson, Asher Darby; brother, Ronald Darby and his wife, Sheila; sister, Kimberly Darby; and nephew, Eric Darby.

He was preceded in death by his father.

A Rosary for Mr. Darby will be recited at 5:00 p.m., with a gathering of family and friends to follow until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 11, 2020, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, November 12, 2020, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 5075 Bigner Road, Beaumont. His interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont.

I grew up with Mike in school. We were good friends. I will always remember how supportive he was of our school sports teams. I will always remember him standing on the track leaning against the fence as our football team ran out onto the field. He would yell out to me and give me the power fist and I would then return it. I will miss mike very much. He was a good man. I am sorry for your loss....rest now mike, job well done...
