Michael Joseph “Joey” Rand

September 8, 1980 - August 16, 2021

Michael Joseph “Joey” Rand, 40, of Austin, TX was called home by our Heavenly Father Monday, August 16, 2021. He was born on September 8, 1980, in Beaumont, TX to Nancy Faye Pontiff and Michael Ray “Mickey” Rand.

Joey was a life-long resident of Nederland and graduated Class of ’99. He then went on to obtain a Bachelor of Business degree from Lamar University in 2004 and moved to Austin, Texas in 2007. He and Lisa were married in the Bahamas in 2012 and built a beautiful life in Austin, Texas, welcoming Jay in December 2017.

Joey was a beloved husband to Lisa (Robbins) Rand and a wonderful, loving father to his son, Michael “Jay” Rand. Joey loved his family and friends beyond measure and was a supportive, thoughtful, and loyal friend to all who knew him. He had a heart of gold, and always thought of others before himself. From a very young age his mom, Nancy, instilled the value of a dollar within him. Joey never met a stranger and would give you the shirt off his back in an instant. He will be remembered by most for being the life of the party and loved to live life to the fullest. Before he married, his first love was that of his white Jordan shoes, Polo shirts, and his white Eclipse, which he stored and intended for Jay to ride around the streets of Austin in. He grew up with a passion for fishing, playing baseball and football, even going to the Babe Ruth World Series his Senior Year.

He was a huge Philadelphia Eagles, Astros and University of Texas Longhorn sports team fan. He loved to spend his time in the evenings having late night conversations with his granny and friends. He also loved making smokey fires, listening to music, going out on his pops boat and most recently the pontoon boat. Joey spent his final hours on this Earth at his lake house in Sunrise Beach Village, Texas, a place he enjoyed the most, spending much of his time there, surrounded by family and friends.  His memories will stay with those he loved and will be truly missed by so many.

Joey is survived by his wife, Lisa Rand; and son, Michael “Jay” Rand, of Austin; his mother, Nancy Faye Harper and her husband, Ben, of Nederland; brother, Rustin Michael Rand and his wife, Loryn, of Austin; grandmother, Stella Pontiff, of Nederland; niece, Ava Rand; nephew, Grant Gula; aunts, Patricia Martin and husband Gregory, Melody Pontiff, Paula Leger and husband Anthony and Renee Cesmirosky and husband Joe; uncle, Rex Rand; cousins, Kristin Rand, Kaleb Norris, Koleen Garrett, Matthew McCarley, Blake Sessions, Kourtney Rand, Kari Rand, Michael Cesmirosky, Paige Cesmirosky and Jordan Gallier; and numerous extended family members.

He is preceded in death by his father, Michael Ray “Mickey” Rand and grandparents, Russell Pontiff, Jim Rand and Charlotte Rand.

A celebration of life for Joey Rand will begin with a gathering of his family and friends at 5:00 p.m., with his memorial service following at 6:00 p.m., Saturday, August 28, 2021, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. His cremation arrangements were handled through Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont.

Lisa and Jay, as your Mother and Grandma to sweet little Jay, I am so deeply sorry for the loss of your husband Joey and father to little Jay.
Joey was one of a kind, REAL, down to earth, thoughtful, kind hearted, to the Point-calling it like it was, made every one feel important, always respectful, which means A Lot. Never made you feel less than, Oh you were so much Sunshine on a cloudy day. Good listener with great advice. I could sat and talk to you for hours Joey.

Love you Joey, Lisa and Jay

I am so very saddened to hear of the passing of Joey. I knew him since the 5th grade, and he was always a good friend to me. He even kept up with me throughout the years, whether it was to just wish me a happy birthday, or to give a kind word. Joey was gifted, intelligent, and kind. My deepest condolences to his wife and family, as well as all of us who loved him. I’m grateful that I knew him.

Into paradise may the angels lead you. At your coming may the martyrs receive you, and bring you into the holy city Jerusalem. May choirs of angels welcome you, and with Lazarus who once was poor may you have peace everlasting.
