Michael “Mike” Fama
Michael “Mike” Fama, 72, of Beaumont, died Tuesday, July 2, 2024.
Mike was born in Beaumont, Texas, to Joseph Fama, MD and Lena Mae “Doodle” Fama.
After attending college and pharmacy school, Mike became a registered pharmacist. During his career he worked in retail, institutional and mail order pharmacy before retiring.
In his leisure time he truly enjoyed being with family, but also had a wide circle of life-long friends. With family there were many wonderful holiday events that included excellent food and lots of fun and a particular favorite gathering place was the family country retreat in Woodville.
Mike was always a huge sports fan. As a young adult he played in local softball leagues. For many years he and a friend made annual trips to Baton Rouge for tailgating and attending LSU games. More recently he and the family would attend Astros games. Mike and his daughter, Emily, had a particular connection over sports. When Emily was still in school their common morning routine would involve watching Sports Center before Mike dropped Emily and her brother, Greg, off at school.
Mike played golf in high school and junior college and it continued as a passion throughout his adult life. When he was younger, he played in many local tournaments – often with his brother, Alan. Golf was a part of many vacations and was sometimes the reason for planning a particular trip.
Another great passion of his was hunting. Primarily ducks, geese and other waterfowl, but he also made several trips with good friends to pheasant hunt in Nebraska. He made some special memories with his son, Greg, both hunting and fishing. Mike and Greg also bonded over cooking some of Grandma Doodles favorite recipes.
He maintained close relationships with a number of high school friends. They still routinely gather to play cards. This group of friends were also known to spend time as a group at the beach or lake retreats.
He was preceded in death by both parents and his sister, Suzy Rowland.
Among those that will be missing Mike are his wife of 42 years, Vicki Westerterp Fama as well as his brothers, Joe Fama and his wife, Linda and Alan Fama and his wife, Cheri; and his children, Emily Fama and Greg Fama; along with a number of nieces, nephews and great-nieces/nephews.

I met Mike years ago through my cousin, Carl Fasulo. They were good friends until the Good Lord called Carl home about 20 years ago. Carl was a pharmacists as well. I was around Mike at a few social settings and always found him to be one heckuva nice guy. Our Lord Jesus got a good one with Mike. My condolences and sorrows to all the family.
