I worked with Mike for 16 years during my career at Employers Insurance. Such a fine lawyer and even better person. Always professional, protected his clients, and exhibited a lot of patience (necessary when dealing with claims folks). My sympathies to the family. May you find comfort in Romans 14:8.

    Mitchell Toups says:

Lynn–I heard the news while in Chicago last Thursday–I am so sorry to hear of this news–I have read all of the entriess here and everyone had the same experience with Mike–a truly wonderful and nice man that was always friendly and welcoming to all. Boy– do I have the stories from our 16 years as partners–the one I remember the most was that he and I discussed that we should all retire by 55–I find it most interesting that he was actually preparing for trial at the age of 75 –I guess that did not happen as we discussed–what a brilliant trial lawyer–always so disarming and always to the point–there was never a boring or long winded speech in argument or on direct or cross examination–he went straight to the point –made it –and got out quickly–that is one of the best things I have learned a lawyer can do and he did it better than most. The laughs we had were some of the best times I ever experienced–I will also never forget the Pitching machine that is mentioned in the Obit–one of the young lawyers in the firm said he could hit a 100 mph fast ball–so Mike invited him over to see the pitching machine–Mike set the machine up and the associate went to swing and the ball hit him right in the side at 105 mph–no hit for him and no more pitching machine talk anymore from that associate–my guess is Mike will be in heaven coaching someone somewhere looking for the next undefeated season–I can say this–Mike was undefeated in Life and as a Lawyer–as many have said here–he truly was one of the few good guys in this profession and as a human being. Michael–I miss seeing you too and I can almost remember every hit and score you made in baseball as a youth –your dad was so proud of everything you did and he kept us all informed y–hope you are well –my thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Peace to all of you and in Gods speed, Mitchell Toups

Sweet Lynn and Olivia and family,
My heart is so heavy hearing the news of Mike’s passing. Your family always held such a special place in my heart and were instrumental in my life for years. Even though our paths have not crossed in so many years, my heart is with you all in your grief and so grateful for the memories that I shared with you all. Mike gave me my first job that carried me all the way through High School. He was a phenomenal boss and leader as he taught me so much not only about the legal field, but about how to be a professional, kind leader, and faithful follower of Christ. He always spoke with such grace and love yet strong and confident. Lynn, you and Mike allowed me to take care of Olivia for so many years and I remember them fondly. So grateful for all of the ways that you both impacted my life. Mike will be truly missed. You all will be in my prayers and heart.
with love and a heavy heart,
