Michael Stabbs

October 19, 1956 - September 6, 2022

Michael Joseph Stabbs, 65, of Groves, died Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at Harbor Hospice of Beaumont. He was born October 19, 1956, in Winshire, to Mary Pearl Smith Stabbs and Gerald Floyd Stabbs.

Michael retired from Big Hill as a security guard after thirty-eight years of service. He enjoyed motorcycles, four wheelers, and getting in the mud. He also loved his firearms and knives. Michael will forever be remembered as a loving son, husband, brother, and friend.

He is survived by his wife of twenty-nine years, Betty Sue Stabbs of Hemphill; stepsons, Chris and Michael Wafstaff; sister, Lisa McAvoy of Winnie; brother, David Stabbs and wife, Alison, of Winnie; niece, Haley Gauthreaux and husband, Rusty, of Winnie; grandniece and nephew, Rowan and Grayson Gauthreaux; and special friends, Honey, Chester, and Tristlyn.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

A gathering of Mr. Stabbs’ family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m., with his memorial service at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 9, 2022, at Broussard’s, 134 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie. His cremation arrangements will be handled through Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont.

    Mike and I worked together for 35 years. Never a dull moment with Mike. We had a lot of good times at the Hill. Several times a year we would try to meet at the Golden Triangle Gun Club and spend a couple of hours shooting. Mike was a true friend I will miss you. David and Lisa my condolences.

    indeed, sorry to see that Mike has gone on. Long as I can remember Mike was a good guy and never had a bad word for anyone. Remember many a good times on two strokes and knobby tires with that guy. He always seemed to have a motorcycle throughout life. I appreciated him stopping by for a short visit every ten years or so. Always seemed to be the same guy from back in the 70s, never changed. Caught a glimpse of him at the reunion back in June but never saw him again that evening. Sorry I missed a chance to visit with him one last time. You never know. RIP Mike Stabbs, and Peace be with your family.
