Michael Thompson
Michael Wayne Thompson, 61, of Beaumont, Texas, passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2023, peacefully at home after a long illness with lung cancer. He was born on August 2, 1961, in San Diego, California, to Lou and Katherine (Kitty) Thompson.
Mike loved working with his hands and had careers in electronics and refurnishing furniture. He was also very talented with electronics, computers, and drones. He could repair almost anything electronic. He was great at diagnosing problems and offering solutions. Playing the guitar was his passion and he was also gifted at playing the cello. His music carried him forward in life, and in his darkest times, that’s how he was healed. He always wanted to put a smile on people’s faces and had a great sense of humor. He performed as “Sparky” the Clown for many years doing magic, making balloon animals and juggling. Mike absolutely loved riding his motorcycles. Mike lived most of his life in Beaumont, Texas, so that he could be close to his family.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Lou Amos Thompson and Katherine Eileen English Thompson, and daughter, Rebecca Lee Thompson. He is survived by his girlfriend of 8 years, Christie Mitchell, son, Dakota Michael Thompson, sister, Robin Thompson Angenend (Kevin,) and brother Frank Thompson (Mindy.) He also had many nieces and nephews along with a great-niece.
A gathering of Mike’s family and friends will be 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a time of sharing at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday February 28, 2023, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. Mike donated his body to the Willed Body Program at UT McGovern Medical School at Houston which enables the education of future physicians and insures ongoing health research and discovery in many fields. He also hoped others could learn from his illness and help the overall journey toward the cure of cancer.
