Mildred LaJuan Holt

September 14, 1934 - December 25, 2021

Mildred LaJuan Holt, 87, of Beaumont, died Saturday, December 25, 2021, at Harbor Hospice, Beaumont. She was born September 14, 1934, in Peacock, Texas, to Mildred Irene Watson Rash and James Edward Rash, Sr. It was there that she met and married the love of her life Courtney Holt and soon after moving to Beaumont to raise their 4 children in South Park.  She became a hairdresser in the mid 60s and at some point, probably did most of the south end ladies’ hair.

The world knew her as LaJuan but the luckiest of us knew her as “Mom” or “Ninnie”. No matter what you called her, there is no denying that she was one of a kind. She was a lady of many talents.  Among them cooking, baking, square dancing, painting, gardening and had some impressive crocheting skills.  She was strong, brave, outspoken and so full of love.

Ninnie spent her life serving others and creating happiness.  She loved to laugh and would get so tickled sharing all her favorite things with her great grand babies.  That might have been her “most” favorite thing.

LaJuan loved making others happy. She knew everyone’s favorite foods and desserts and she never missed the opportunity to make sure they had them. She was magical in a kitchen.  If you’ve ever had her Mexican Soup or one of her pecan squares, then you were one of the lucky ones to have experienced that magic.

When she wasn’t creating in the kitchen, she could be found in her garden showing off her green thumb.  Ninnie loved to garden and was so proud to teach everyone how it was done.  She really could grow anything.

Not only could she grow anything, but she could also catch anything too.  You want to talk about someone who loved fishing? Look no further!  Ninnie absolutely loved fishing. She didn’t even mind personally digging for worms.  In fact, she kind of loved it.  She was always up for an adventure and just had that fun spirit.

Whether in the kitchen, in the garden, fishing, working her puzzles or painting…you can bet she was accompanied by her most loyal four-legged fur baby, sweet JoJo.

Ninnie was an incredible woman.  She spent her life serving and taking car of others. She lived, laughed, and loved so hard.  Loving her was so easy.  Being loved by her was a privilege. She will be so very missed.

LaJuan was preceded in death by her husband of thirty-six years, Courtney Lee Holt and her daughter Kelley Jo Holt. She is survived by her daughters, Debbie Brown of Beaumont; Diane Holt Verde and her husband, Robert, of Beaumont; son, Donald Holt and his wife, Angela, of Beaumont; brother, James Edward Rash, Jr. and his wife, Liz, of Burleson; grandchildren, Chris Moran; Donald Holt, Jr. and his wife, Carmen; Erica Thomisee and her husband, Dustin; Lindsay Medley and her husband, Jeff; Melissa Verde Hoffpauir and her husband, Zane; David Holt and his wife, Jordan; Shelby Scott and her husband, John; eleven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
