Mina Louise Como
Mina Louise Como, 88, of Silsbee, died Monday, July 4, 2022. She was born on May 18, 1934, in Jasper, to Burley Bradshaw Phillips and Clyde Phillips.
She attended Silsbee High School, where she was crowned Homecoming Queen in 1951. After graduation she and Bennie Como met, on a blind date, and later married. Louise worked at the courthouse as the Assistant County Auditor, where she later retired from. She thought she ran the courthouse!
Louise made a difference in so many lives. From being a daughter, sister, to wife of almost seventy years, to being a mother, but the name she was most proud of was Granny Chicken.
Her girls, Sarah, Peggy, Donna, and Sissy were her life. She was an amazing role model and stood by their sides through thick and thin.
Through all of her years, she enjoyed and treasured her roles in life. Momma Como to all those children in Belize while on the mission field, a preacher’s wife, which she said was harder than being a preacher, to a poet and a comedian. She always had something funny to say and make you laugh.
Flowers and plants were one of her past times and her and Poppa made many quilts together. She loved to shop and cook and thought she always had to feed you if you came to visit, so you had better come hungry or at least fake it!
Everywhere she went she made an impression on people with her kindness, generosity, and love. Family was very important to her, and she never met a stranger.
Survivors include her husband, Bennie Como; daughters, Sarah Christopher and her husband, Rodger, of Crystal Beach; Peggy Yates, and Donna Flanakin and her husband, Mark, all of Silsbee; grandchildren, Leeanne Bowerman of Beaumont; Kelli Jones and Samuel Jones, both of Lumberton; Amy Pustka and her husband, Robert, and Bennie Griffin and her husband, Jason, all of Silsbee; Sawyer Flanakin and his wife, Jane, of Austin; Cutler Flanakin and his fiancée, Hope Harrison, of Jasper; T.J. Longshore and his wife, Amy, of Austin; and Kennedy Barnett of Dallas; great-grandchildren, Hannah Middleton, Olivia Bowerman, Isabella Bowerman, Max Jones, A’Jeon Iglesias, Emily Pustka, and Lottie Atkinson; sister, Marie Hillin of Buna; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Sissy Como Barnett; brother, Cecil Phillips; and sister, Ann Caraway.
A gathering of Mrs. Como’s family and friends will begin at 2:00 p.m., with her funeral service at 2:30 p.m., Friday, July 8, 2022, at Broussard’s, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee. Her interment will follow at Old Hardin Cemetery, Kountze.

So sorry to hear of your sweet mothers passing. She will always be remembered as a woman who loved God and loved everyone around her. I remember her sweet voice as I write this. I know your Dad will miss her so. I love you and your family.

I’m so sorry to her about the loss of your mom. I have a lot of great memories of her, your dad and all of you girls. We had a lot of fun growing up in our neighborhood. I will be praying for all of you.
In my young teen years, she was my Sunday School teacher. She would begin our class with prayer. Then would start reading the scriptures, by the end of the class she was all but preaching! She always took time to listen to us teens and wanted us always to remember that God loves and cares for us all. Precious sweet lady. Praying for her family.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Como family. Mrs. Como was such a sweet person who will be missed by this community.

I went to church with Sis. Como at Kountze First Assembly A/G. She was a precious lady. I loved to hear her preach and teach. She was so annointed by God. She will be missed.

I only had a short time and dealings with Mrs. Como and paw paw Como ,but I have thought about the whole family often wondering what happen. I love Sister Como. The way she would lay hands on you and pray. You could feel the power of God. You could see the love of Christ all over her. She loved to tell people about Jesus. Heaven has gained a mighty woman of God.
Our families went to church together @ CaneyHead A/God for many years. She was my Sunday school teacher when I was a teenager. Precious lady and well loved.
Even though we only met one time at Amy and TJ’s Wedding. We enjoyed every minute together under the Live Oak Tree. Resting In God’s Arms.
My aunt will be sorely missed. I remember her smile and her welcome. David and my prayers go out to all of her family. God speed, Aunt Louise. Say hello to Mama when you get to heaven.

I I haven’t known Mama Como for very many years, but she was sweet and kind. She always treated me as one of her own, whether it was I needed a hug or I needed to be fussed at. She was just a beautiful woman Inside and Out. I will miss her
