Morris Sidney Williams

January 22, 1940 - June 7, 2020

Morris Sidney Williams, 80, of Lumberton, passed away Sunday, June 7, 2020, with his precious wife by his side.   He was born on January 22, 1940, in Beaumont, Texas, the son of Virgil Virginia and Nellie Marie (Menard) Williams. He spent his childhood in Beaumont, Texas, then moved to Nederland, Texas, where he graduated from high school in 1958.

Morris went on to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army on June 9, 1958 and served through February 8, 1963. He was stationed at Camp Wolters, Mineral Wells, Texas. During his time of service, he spent many months in Massachusetts and Korea. He earned the Good Conduct Medal, Expert Carbine Badge along with the Marksman Badge for Carbine and Rifle. Serving his country was an honor for him. After he returned, he married the love of his life, Pat Gotcher on June 22, 1961, and they made Southeast Texas their home. Morris worked for BF Goodrich for 40 years as a supervisor in Port Neches, Texas, until he retired in 2001.

Morris was a loving Father, devoted Christian and extreme Patriot. His faith and love for his Lord and country could be seen in his life each day. He was a member of Crestwood Baptist Church of Kountze, Texas. His love and patriotism were displayed each day, whether it was at his home with the American flag flying in his front yard or in his travels, by the bumper sticker on his truck. He had many hobbies where he enjoyed working with his hands. He created many things of leather, wood and enjoyed photography. Morris was a longtime volunteer for The Hope Center of SETX where he collected and counted funds during the Baby Bottle Campaign. The generosity and love of Morris overflowed not only to his family, but to his extended family of 19 foster children that he cared for throughout the years. While his children were young, camping trips were an adventure throughout the southern United States. After retirement, Morris and Pat would continue their travels throughout the entire United States. And if that was not enough, Morris ventured across the ocean to Africa with his son, Dennis and grandson, Michael.

Morris is preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Nellie Williams and his sister, Virgie Lee (Williams) Challie.

Morris is survived by his wife, Pat (Gotcher) Williams; son, Dennis Williams of Lumberton, daughters, Wendi Williams Witt of Lumberton and Misty Williams Walcott and her husband, Carl, of Lumberton; his sister, Retha Vize and husband, Wayne, of Nederland; 7 grandchildren, Michael Williams and wife, Katherine, of Beaumont; Christen Witt and husband, Wayne of Lumberton; Trinity Witt and wife, Whitney, of Warren; Danielle Urban and husband, James, of Beaumont; Kye Walcott and wife, Brandy, of Austin; and Zach and Kole Walcott of Lumberton; 5 great-grandchildren, Hudson Williams, Aubery Witt, Alexis Haley, Gavin Brackin, and Olivia Urban; and an extended family of many nieces and nephews. We are so sorry for your loss... he sounds like a wonderful man. Although we didn't know him personally, we did know Catherine, and if she is any reflection of him, we lost another good one. Sending prayers and well wishes for your family.

Pat, I'm so sorry to hear of Morris' death, but we know that he's waiting for all of you in Heaven. I live in Jasper now so unless i read the obituaries, i don't hear news about home much. Please just know that I love and miss you and pray God's comfort for all the family.
