Oliver R. Sterling III

September 27, 1947 - October 30, 2024

Oliver R. Sterling III, aka, Big O and Speedy, 77, of Vidor, died Wednesday, October 30, 2024. He was born on September 27, 1947, in Beaumont, to Rosemary James Sterling and Oliver Sterling, Jr.

Mr. Sterling took joy by giving joy. He loved to make people smile with jokes, food, and gifts. People everywhere knew him for his goofy sense of humor and his extraordinary cooking. His hobbies included cars, trucks, boats, motorcycles and spoiling his family. He was most proud of his tradition of donating blood, his gumbo, and most of all, his children and grandchildren who he loved fiercely.

Survivors include his daughter, Jodie Benoit; son, Michael Sterling; grandchildren, Tyler Doiron and her spouse, Grant Neal; Sydney Doiron Carr; and Dustin Sterling and his spouse, Shayla; great grandchildren, Dayton Sterling, Cashton Sterling, and Kamryn Sterling; sister, Mary Ann Sterling; and son-in-law, Eric Carr. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife of 50 years, Dolores Sterling; stepsons, Garrett Rossi and Nickey Rossi; and brothers, Jimmie Sterling, Robert Sterling, and John Michael Sterling.

In memory of Mr. Sterling, the family encourages everyone to donate blood with Life Share Blood Centers, 4305 Laurel Avenue, Beaumont, Texas 77707.

A gathering of Mr. Sterling’s family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m., with a Rosary recited at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 2, 2024, with his Funeral Service to follow at 11:00 a.m., at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. His entombment will be at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, November 2, 2024,  at St. Bernard Cemetery and Mausoleum #2, 4371 Main Highway, Breaux Bridge, Louisiana.
